2003-2006 E/CLS Recall (Fuel Related)
Just got a recall notice, states:
"when your vehicle is exposed to high ambient temperatures in combination with frequent stop and go driving, small cracks may develop over time in the fuel filter modules due to mechanical stress. Fuel evaporation through these small cracks may lead to customer complaints of fuel smell."
This is what happened to my car a month ago.....

Had no gas smell. When the car was done the tech said it had been leaking and he cleaned it up. Now I smell gas.

What do you mean- There are two pumps and a level sensor on the passenger side and just a level sensor on the drivers side. The fitting on the drivers side is the "out" to the engine, that is the line that cracks

Got mine done last week with my G service. They replaced the fuel filter module. I didn't have any gas smell, unless you count the beans I had for lunch.

Got mine today and the sentences that read as follows made me think of Skeeter and his warranty difficulties.
"In order to ensure your full protection under the emission warranty provisions, it is recommended that you have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible. Failure to so could be determined as a lack of proper maintenance on your vehicle."
Real customer oriented, MBUSA is. Not. They are trying their hardest to get me to buy some other brand of vehicle for my next ride. I think they are slowly succeeding.

I can hear it now!
I can hear it now from the service adviser "gas smell is due to the MODS you've installed on the car, most likely the K/N filters. Your car is now marked status 8, have I nice day. BTW the fuel repairs will be $2.300.00 dollars, do you want to schedule an appointment?"

Took mine in yesterday for the recall, NY state inspection, and tried to get the IC Pump replaced by claiming that the SC cuts out at times. I brought it into White Plains MB at 10am and it was complete at 4pm. For the recall they installed a new sleeve into the fuel filter module assembly. As for the IC Pump no failure codes came up so no action required according to them.

Had the fuel module replaced today.....funny thing is now I swear I smell fuel whereas before I did not. Got home, garaged it then had to open the garage an hour later to get the trash ready and it seemed like the garage stunk of something fuel related.

Recall for the recall...
I had the recall done on 3/14. Brought the car home for the weekend and my garage STUNK heavily of fuel. I was thinking maybe the smell was just left over residue from them working on it. NOPE! Took the car back on 3/17 and my SA told me there was a recall on the recall. hahaha! She said that fuel had spilled all over the heat shield under the passenger side rear seat after the recall. They kept my car for 3 days waiting for a new part. Now the smell is gone from the outside but my interior still stinks. I think I just need to air it out a bit. Before the recall I had NO smell at all!
