Manheim MMR does not have any 2008's that have gone through auction. The car is too new.
2007 E63's:
02/27/08 W PALM Lease $62,200 17,862 Below ARC WHT 8G A No
02/28/08 RIVRSIDE Factory $69,500 6,104 Avg BLACK 8G A Yes
02/28/08 RIVRSIDE Factory $69,500 1,176 Avg PLAT BLU 8G A Yes
02/28/08 RIVRSIDE Lease $63,750 7,565 Avg OBS BLK 8G A Yes
03/05/08 ATLANTA Lease $64,500 16,526 Avg OBS BLK 8G A No
03/05/08 ALOHA Lease $61,500 13,459 Below IRI SIL 8G A No
03/12/08 W PALM Lease $59,800 2,827 Below BLACK 8G A No
"Below" will typically be lemon lawed/branded title. A good 2007 E63 will go for upper 60k wholesale, low 70's retail.
Car is getting killed in the wholesale market. W211 is at the end of it's lifespan.

Good point. Unlike the BMW 5 series and M5 which underwent a mild exterior and major interior facelift for 08 the 63 hasn't changed as its introduction in MY2007 coincided with the E-class facelift. The 07s therefore make a great buy. It's a good car the E63.

Pick a popular car that has tons of Manheim transactions across the nation. Sort the list based on the price. You'll find that there is no overlap between "above" price and "average" price; and between "average" price and "below" price. To me, this is a bit unrealistic...
Just my 2c.
Back to original topic: 2008 E63 & CPO? Is this from dealer? I would be surprised if it's below $80K. But good luck to you!

I have to disagree w/ this statement. While it may be a good proxy (as buyers are typically well informed), "above", "average" and "below" in MMR do not constitute the true condition. MMR condition is truly based on the price (could be top 1/3, mid 1/3 and bottom 1/3) and is not linked to the number of "stars" in the live auction or the grades in the condition report, which both I believe reflect the true condition of the cars.

From my experience over here (going to Manheim riverside high-line auction), most of the cars labeled "Below" were in a bad condition while the ones that were labeled "Average" and "Above" were both in good condition (no noticeable difference).
Last year before I purchased my car, I visited the auction about 9 times in a row and found some E63s, but most of them were labeled "Below". Here are some problems I found with "Below":
1) Somebody switched the rims with E350 rims.
2) Small dents and rock chips on bumper and/or rims.
3) Car had odd sound when revving up the engine.
4) Un-usual engine vibration when idle.
5) Abused (but cleaned-up) interior.
6) Tail lights swapped out for E320 tail lights.
etc.....
But like I said, I didn't notice much problems with the "Average" and "Above" labeled vehicles.

OK.... there are 3 ratings I was talking about:
1. Grade rating (1-5) in condition report (if the car has one).
2. Star rating (1-5??? not sure) during the actual auctions
3. MMR rating (above, average, below) in the MMR report (as quoted above)
I would guess the rating you mentioned above was either #1 or #2. And the rating quoted by jl88 was from MMR (#3).
To me, #1 is the most accurate one. An inspector checks almost everything (not sure about the engine) - tires, scratches, paint job, body work, etc. Based on my experience, if you get grade 3, the car is already good. If you could get grade 4 or above, the car is in exceptional condition. Another way to see this is to look the repair cost estimate in Condition Report. The lower of course the more minor the damage/blemish is.
As for star rating (#2), I'm not sure how this is assigned. Could very likely be linked to the condition report grades. But I found this was also quite accurate.
As for MMR rating, this is the one that I think is the least accurate. If you have access to Manheim (I don't anymore), pick a popular car (let's say 2003 Accord). Don't limit yourself to certain region.... copy the MMR report to excel and sort it based on the price. You'll see that:
- The lowest "above" price > the highest "average" price
- The lowest "average" price > the highest "below" price
So I think MMR rating could be used as a proxy.... but don't think that the "below" car is always worse than the "average" car.
