Car throws CEL with aftermarket air filters

I have a set of performance filters that I'm sure cause the CEL to appear. I first installed them and soon after the car was feeling sluggish and tired, a few KM later the CEL came on. The dealer read any codes and said the problem is MAF sensor. They repaced the MAF reset ECU plus adaption and gave back the car. Everything is fine and I'm thinking there's no way a set of airfilers can cause a CEL, so, I try em again and guess what, car starts to run bad and CEL comes on. Dealer said it's the same codes and can't figure how a brand new MAF can be bad, they installed another anyway. After the second MAF I have'nt installed them again.

Anyone want to buy almost brand new airfilters for 63 engine?

did you have the TSB performed for the manifold gaskets? If you did not you will keep gettingthe CEL , what filters are you using?

They are pre-oiled from factory with oil that Toyota claims to be safe for all MAF's.

That's why I don't understand this. I've been using K&N's in my 08 SL550 & 03 S55 with no problems for a long time now. I use these type of filters in all my cars MB, Jaguar, Volvo, Dodge, Ford all without any problems. I can't figure why this car does'nt like em?

No, but I don't know if mine was affected. I do notice some times at startup the car may vibrate or shake a touch for only a minute or so, don't know if this is related. What type of codes were they getting, were they like ones for MAF? I think mine may have been showing something like a lean condition.

Maybe bad set of filters, or could still be just a coincidence?

Drive the car for a couple of weeks with OEM filters just to make sure the MAF sensor is okay, then switch filters and give it one more try

I don't know the exact codes as I still don't have my copies of either work order, but the tech told me they show a "lean condition" which he said is almost always the MAF.

good thing you put back the oem filters before going to the dealer or else your warranty could've been denied.
