E55 whine at idle

E55 whine at idle
I just bought a 2006 E55 and it has a noticeable whine at idle, is this normal for the car, related to the supercharger maybe? Almost sounds like a power steering pump whine. Goes away when you rev it or drive it.

E55
Take the cover off and listen closely to the s/c pulley and clutch assembly. If it coming from there, your bearing is going bad. You can confirm by shutting off the engine, and spinning this with your hand. If all is normal, it should spin easily, if the bearing is going out it will be difficult to move. Dealer should replace without problems.

Mine does this too. Comes from right hand side down low. I always assumed it was something to do with air suspension. I'd like to know if its something else as is sounds wrong.

mine does it too, I even had the dealer look into it the last time I was in for service and they said everything is operating at spec....at least I have them on record if something goes wrong later. It does tend to mellow out once warmed up but is awfully loud in the garage at start-up

Same here on my CLS. It's odd that a noise that sounds wrong is considered normal! But 3, 4 of you are saying so?...
The problem is it's only making this noise for a short while at start up, and goes away as you rev it up. So by the time you're at the dealer everything is a OK. Unless you leave it there overnight for them which I am not ready to do. I videotaped it and took it to my SA and let him see it, but he said it was hard for him to tell from the camera...

i have a 03 E500 and i heard that its the harmonic balancer or pulley or something of that sort so i got mines changed out it was like 100 bucks but i still got that sound, so i just made my exhaust a lil bit louder to cancel out the noise

Simple test for these engines is when your necks snaps backwards upon acceleration--all systems are AOK.
