Look beyond the fog

I read a comparison between a Toyota Pryus Hybrid and a HUMMER in EVO magazine. They compared all aspects from the environmental impact of the two cars construction, their fuel consumptions and emissions during their lifespan and their ability to be recycled when they became redundant. When all was weighed up the HUMMER was well and truly the most environmental friendly of the two cars. The main factor against the Pryus its large toxic battery pack, which cannot be recycled and is a nightmare to safely dispose of. I think from memory the emissions created in constructing the Pryus alone, including construction of batteries and other components was a higher emission volume than a single HUMMER would produce in its whole expected lifespan. That blew me away.

I think you should just get a "Hybrid" badge and put it on the Denali.

That way you can be a Green Poser!

You are getting raped by the OIL industry even if you don't drive a car. I agree that we should all do something to get away from being dependent on oil.

When I trade my wife's GL450 in a couple of years I will go hybrid or electric (SUV)depending on what is available at the time. Even a 10 mpg increase would almost double my wife's mileage and cut her fuel consumption in half.

I don't plan on giving up my 55 anytime soon but I don't drive a lot of miles anyway.

Cooper S or a Euro diesel if you want mpg. Just can't stand the smugness that surrounds the Prius. I'll stick with a 6000lb SUV (no gas guzzler tax)and my V10 that gives me 7mpg in the city but blows the doors off F-cars.

Humbly, I've had a Honda Civic Hybrid with the carpool lane stickers since August 2005. I get 37mpg driving 80+mph by myself in the carpool lane while the rest of you suckers are stuck driving 5 mph in traffic in your torque monsters. Saves me 20+ minutes each way. By the time I finish dinner, you're just pulling into your garage....

I have to agree, go greener by going with a true green car. A Civic or Accord, Camry or Corolla, Mini or Vdub diesel, any of these are much safer on the environment than the battery packs in hybrid cars. Or, an E320 would be a noticable change also. As long as you could justify the price difference over any of the others I listed.

E55 or CL600, if I could make up my mind
My mom drives a VW Polo Bluemotion, and averages 60+ mpg without even trying too hard. 70+ mpg on the highway is no problem.
80 hp turbo diesel runs circles around Priuses.

I really don't know why they're not being sold in the US yet.

2007 SL550 - Aegean Blue; 2008 E63 Wagon - Iridium Silver
I drove a Lexus 400h for about 2 years, and even though it is a great and very reliable car that is very refined, I was bored to tears. I use my E63 wagon as my daily driver, and have an SL550 as my occasional car. Works out great for me. No more boredom!

20+ to list......
Not going drive a hybrid ever. I'm still running around with my gas guzzlers. I used half a tank in one day in my ML yesterday.
