Can anyone conceive of problems with constant battery disconnect/ECU clearing??
Talked about this in my heatsoak thread but yet again today, when I disconnected the battery overnight and reconnected today, car is just on fire. From a stoplight yesterday, booooooggggged to 2nd. Today, nothing but tire squeal and hard acceleration. Same hot temps and car running near 100c for temp gauge.
What could you imagine might go wrong with say weekly overnight disconnects of the battery.
Was thinking of snagging something like this from Summit Racing below.
Just amazing, the difference this car makes when you clear all those granny settings out. I had been driving the car at 60-65 from a few hundred miles trying to get emissions to setup.
Just curious what you thoughts are.

Quick release battery connectors? Interesting.
Any difference between resetting the ECU by key/Gas paddle and disconnect the battery? I've only tried the first method a couple of times, and I can't really say that I've felt a huge difference.
Will disconnecting the battery reset all the memories? Such as the seat position, garage door remote and the radio station settings.

Yes, all memories are gone I believe so regular drivers that have everything stored in her would not want to do this.
Tranny settings/sneaky ECU is very nice, but when you reset all engine/tranny parameters, car is just a monster for a few hundred miles.
IMHO.

Bummer. I want to try the battery method but I hate to try to reprogram all the stuff. Especially all the addresses I have stored in the navi...

Jakpro how about a battery switch?

Could the power chip folks disable the "adaptive" componet in the ECU & TCU?
Be a good question for Vadim.

Jim, is there a way to clear those tranny codes using the STAR Diagnostic software?

Man Yacht, that is a KILLER idea!! If there ever was a way we could do that, these cars would improve 10fold performance wise.
It's amazing how "grannyish" they setup over time.
Does anyone know if that is hard fact?? (that every setting is erased with battery overnight disconnect) Hate to give you the wrong info Phat.

Wish I could have did dyno yesterday and today.
Just no comparison.
I did do a dyno run before and after tranny adapt clearings last year and the 1/4 mile run on the dyno picked up a tenth or 2........and that was with it being hotter.
Interesting

I just did the sneaky ECU reset and took the car for a quick drive. It feels faster and is much more....."responsive". It actually felt newer. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
So, I'm not sure if this can equate to higher dyno numbers, but you never know with all the electronic wizardry in this car.
And I can't unplug the battery because that will **** off the wife when she finds out all her settings are gone. Not worth the extra speed to me.

I have not tried the ECU reset, but all it really takes for me to get the car going is either
A. Do 1 or 2 fast bursts and the car will go into BEAT mode
B. Manually down shift in S mode and hold the car in the power band i want.
You have the peddle shifters on the wheel, or tiptronic through gear leaver

Sneaky G/B reset does more than enuf for me - the battery issue is a PITA the sunroof / windows all have to re-learn their auto off points etc .. I dont think its a good idea... also its a computer so you are clearing the cache every time the battery goes off... so can't see it doing damage unless the ROM gets messed up somehow. Just don't think it was designed for this tho.
In my experience the sneaky ECU/Gearbox reset definitely works and is sufficient!

Next time she starts acting up, I gotta try just doing the sneaky and see how much of a difference it makes compared to nuclear battery option.
