K-40 Radar help!
just shelled out 1500 on this calibre system with the laser diffuser. I live in Brooklyn and i am on the road all the time in the city especially. i installed my system last week and i havent had one beep or any kind of radar pickup, meaning i hav not have even a false alert... i must have seen 50 cops in the past week as well.. is something wrong with the install? Or perhaps the unit? Or maybe my unit is not compatible with NYC cops... is it supposed to pickup non highway laser shooting cops as well? i start my car the lights flash its on i even leave it on highway mode so that it could detect virtually anything even a false alarm which it has picked up nothing! i am getting frustrated as my Valentine was a way better device for 1/4 the price. The only reason why I went to k40 was for the stealth, and not because of cops, because i got robbed one night, as they broke my window stole my valentine... I was going to do the V-1 etched into my e63 rear view mirrors (Price means nothing) but I heard the rear view mirror glass cant be etched... Please help with some feedback as i havent been able to ride my 63 with no fear since the install

I have K40 on 2 cars and for radar it works a treat. It picks up all radar threats and will give you a 'front/rear Ka-band/k-band/x-band' audible alert or the front/rear LED will flash (or both depending on your settings). You also hear an increasing frequency of beeps depending on the strength of the signal. With laser you will hear a wailing sound and both LED's will flash.
Don't rely on the laser diffuser. It may give you and extra 2-3 seconds if you're lucky before the cop pings you. It isn't as good as other laser jammer products. With laser, it takes more skill on the cops part to get a reading, so your best line of defense is to know why they hide (it's always the same places).
Take your car to somewhere where you know they are using radar (like a shop with automatic doors) to see if it's working. Best bet is to take it back to the dealer who installed it and get them to show you it working.

When I had my K40 installed the installer had a radar gun on hand to test with. Check with your installer. Also, every CVS I pass sets mine off. I think the door opener sensor they use is on the X-band. When I say every CVS, I mean EVERY CVS.

I kept resetting mine and then they finally replaced the unit. They suspect water got in it. I had them but a bead of silicone around the new unit's seals to prevent it from happening. So far, so good.

K40 suck! Doesn't work for sh*t! what a waste of money. I have a K40-1000 with front laser defuser and I can tell you off hand it doesn't work. I knew for sometime now that my K40 laser defuser doesn't work after gotten a speeding ticket with a laser lock.
You guy might want to check out Laser star http://www.laserstar.info/specs.html if you want true laser jammer that work. Call the local rep and they will show you, give you a demonstration that it jam all laser gun. They have several laser gun used by law enforcement to show you that it work.
Laser star rep confirm it with their laser gun that my K-40 laser defuser doesn't work. The new system installed in my car now jam laser. They even test it out after I gotten it installed. Cost 1/3 of what I paid for K40.

K40 doesn't suck. The radar detection is very good. K40 laser diffuser may not be as effective as others, but as previously stated it may buy you a few seconds to check your speed. The diffuser doesn't cost $1500. It is a $300 option as part of the radar detector.
I think in general laser jammers are over hyped. Their effectiveness is so dependent on other factors (like where the police are aiming, the angle from where they target you, the weather etc) that to say A is better than B is a bit misleading. Your best defense is still your eyes and being constantly on alert.

No complaints, well may be one, too sensitive starts to chirp 3 miles from radar trap.
I have been lased many times and I slow in most cases, but once blew by the Cop at 95 mph laser alarm going off like crazy The cop never gave chase.
Yes Benx-O-Rama finds all CVS drug stores and Publix too.

If you like listen to the 3 different sound it make and try to make out which band it is and hoping it a supermarket door or security and not a real cop than K40 is for you. But the laser defuser still don't work.
Like I said, what a waste of $1500 for the whole system. I got it removed and now it jsut taking up space, wanna buy it...half price
I only can tell you off hand what i experience and not what I hear from other like the saleman who sold it to me.

Yeah, the youtube video is out there, there is also another one showing it working fine. There's some conspiracy rumors that go around about that GOL test (improper install, old unit, etc.); it will be interesting to see what happens when (and if) they test the new model.

Like I said, I don't think ANY of the laser jammer/diffusers are 100% effective (or even close) not because of what they try and do, but the conditions in which they operate. Some *maybe* are better than others but in the whole scheme of things I don't think they offer you that much protection.
k40 as a radar detector on the other hand has been solid for me in 2 vehicles.

While we have taken the OP's post for a bit of a ride -
FWIW - I have the K40 in my jeep and the Escort SRX in my E55. I can tell you that the Escort falses more. I can also tell you that the SRX is much, much more effective with Ka band radar, which is the most popular police radar here. The SRX will give me plenty of warning with the Ka. The K40 only gives me the first Ka warning when the cop is in sight. By that time, the SRX would have been at full alert.
I have mounted my dash passport to run tests with both the SRX and K40. The SRX and Passport were almost in synch. The K40 was not as good, especially with the Ka band.
Laser is not used much where I live, but I have been hit in both cars on highways away from home. Both times, I was going pretty close to the speed limit. So I can't tell you that either saved me.

heres what and where I got with the K-40..
Went back to the installer, he performed a reset... K40 connecting front connected rear connected, life is great. We even had a gun on site to test it and it worked great!
Left the shop and it nailed every camera cop etc.. About 15 min later the system starts going off by itself saying highway tone mode iduno.. So it stopped working. I did a reset myself where I followed each step by step and it reset fine but still it started to go off by itself.
Called K-40 they tell me "must be a software issue, bring your unit back into the installer". I am so pissed right now that i paid 1300 for a calibre dual with laser diffuser. Reason why I did it was because my v1 was jacked out of my window 1 night leaving me v1less and windowless to my expense. I was going to do the V1 into the rearview mirror etch which is stealthy and gorgeous and its much more efficent then calibre but they wanted 2k for the install plus I hear the rearview mirror glass on e63 is double glass which makes it hard to etch.
So ill be going in to redo my radar come tuesday and im not happy about it, regardless if anyone has pics or info on v1 "etched into mirror" I'd love to see and hear about it, plus prices on install including $399 v1 device.

i had a k40-2000 and it worked great. i just sold it.
the aboslute easiest and 100% accurate way to test is go out the NJ turnpike toll booth entrance and as you are coming up to it the k40 should start beeping like crazy from teh EZ Pass speed cameras, if it doesnt than something is wrong.....
