Evosport Experience

As some of you may know, I bought Vic55s old E55 from him back in November. The car had all the performance goodies minus the TB, which I just recently added

A few months after I got the car, I heard a header leak coming from the passenger side. I kept driving it for a few weeks, but the leak started getting louder and louder. When I removed the header, this was the worst crack I haveever seen in my life So, I had the header removed, and gave it to Evosport to fix under warranty, for a few reasons: One, they have a lifetime warranty on welds, two, this is the car they used to develop the E55 performance goodies, and three, I have no idea who else can fix something like this. 3 1/2 weeks later, I got my header back, they put a new collector on it, and welded everything back up. During the procedure, They were trying to find ways to not warranty the product by saying its my motor mounts that are causing the leak, etc etc.. I had the motor mounts checked and they were perfect. Also, they said the welds werent the problem, but the welds were exactly the problem, as this is where the cracking began.

Dropped the header back, in, and not three days later, my Driver side header started leaking.
I took that one out, and same story, cracked welds etc. etc.
Took the header again to evosport, and asked them to fix it as well. After numerous promises of tomorrow, next week, oh next week..I finally got my header back 60 days later, and payed another 100 bucks.

Thank god I have another car to drive, because 90 days of downtime is not something most people would deal with very easily.

I am in no way bad mouthing Evosport, as they have good products, and know their field very well, this is for those people who are considering using their product in the future, my experience is what you have to look forward to, if in fact your header also has a mishap.

Thanks for the help Dale and Simon, and I really hope these headers will hold up this time.

sorry to hear about your headers ed.

Does this thread discussion regarding material use have anything to do with the leak?

Does the damage look like it came from contact? Did it hit the motor wall? There isn't much room under there and your LSD helps lay more down, but it seems like more people wold have had this issue...

Hmmm, oh well... headers are cheap these days...You can oretty much spec out the ones you want for $1500. I can definitely relate to the wait 90 days and then get a bill part.

90 days to get headers replaced seems not right.

If there was a problem with the welds.. they should of given you a new one and they could repaired the old one and sold it as refurbished.

their cost to product headers is minimal compared to the bad publicity it gave them.

Evosport is probably making more money on the P cars and BMW brands.

Blue Monster off topic, how much faster is your car than a stock E55 from a 10mph roll?

Im glad he drove it the way it was supposed to be driven. Mine is probably the best example of an 04 on this board. Everything still looks brand new. He took great care of it, and modded it like crazy.

11.7 on street tires and a cracked header, before I added the TB. This was done in Fontana. 119.9 best trap without TB

I have yet to do the 1/4 with the TB installed. Hopefully June 13th Fontana will happen.

After the TB was installed, the car went down the 1/8th mile @ 95MPH in Irwindale on street tires, with a broken header.

My car .... err Ed's car (sorry Ed ) was a very fast car. Evo always said that it responed better to the mods than almost if not all of the E55's they worked on. They always said that I drove the car way its supposed to be driven, fast!!! Since E55's have adapative trannies and many people just slug their cars down the street and do once-in-a-while speed runs, the cars just dont respond because the car adapts to one's driving style. Drive your car hard and fast and it will adapt that way.

There was a time where I had not enough back pressure and that was the only time the car was ever down on power. That was an easy fix by adding back the resonators.

As Ed said the car trapped 120 with a cracked header and no 80mm TB so who knows where it would be but it will be faster for sure.

Nice times & speed, Your car definitely has some gid e up. My best 1/8th mile speed was just shy of 93mph. I'm just trying to compare the two to see where I can best spend my dollar. My car makes good power already, I may try DR's and see if I can run 11.8-12.0 since everything depends on your 60' that is where I can make the biggest improvement. My best 60 was 1.97

Sorry to hear about your bad experience Ed. Saw this on myMB as well. Like I said there, you should have gotten much better customer support than that. Headers are not cheap items and your downtime was ridiculous. You should have been provided a loaner/rental/compensation for that.

Best bang is ECU / pulley, which is good for almost 50. Next is TB before headers (IMO).

Your car makes power, but not from about the 1/8th to the 1/4. Comparing 1/8th miles is almost like comparing 0 - 60mph times.

Keep an eye out for the trap speeds. I am predicting a number of us to break 120mph and we already know the grunt is there.
