E63 running temp??
E63 running temp??
I have 2007 E63 - new to me. It only has 5000 miles on it - yesterday on the freeway (bumper to bumper and slow) it was warm here in so-cal, mid 80's. The temp on the car rose to 113C. That is the hottest it has ever gotten in my short history with the car. After the traffic opened up - it took a few miles to cool down to the normal 100-102C?
Is this consistent with the temps you guys are experiencing? What happens when it hits 100F+ in July??
Thanks in advance for the information.

I have had my 07 for almost a year and half. Come summer you can expect it to pretty much stay over 100 and will definetly experience some heat soak when it goes over 108. Optimal temps are around 100 or less. wouldnt be too concerned unless you are tracking your car like me then you gotta let it cool off from time to time...

And I assume you are talking about the oil temp on the AMG display.
Temps at the AMG event ran to 130C oil and 100C water. The engine controls the water temp. Normal driving is 80C, but if you are driving hard for an extended period, it will raise the temp to 100C to help get rid of heat faster.
The hotter something is, the faster you shed heat.

I would say under the conditions you described, oil temp of 113 C is okay.
Driving around town in the heat (it got close to 95 F around here over the last week), the oil temp in my car was between 102 to 110 C. However, in the winter, the oil temp stays between 94 and 98 C. If I do a couple of aggressive acceleration runs, the temp definitely rises to 115C and sometimes higher, but goes back down rather quickly.
