Getting "Battery Protection Conven. Functions Temporarily Unavailable" signal.
I was getting the "Battery Protection Conven. Functions Temporarily Unavailable" signal when i turned my car on. I took it in to my MBZ mechanic and he said it was my accessory battery. I had it replaced then the signal came back and after a few days the car would not start. I got a jump, took it in again and the mechanic did a drain test and said somthing was definitly draining the battery however, the problem stopped before he could pin point it. I picked up the car, it drives fine now but my mechanic was almost sure the problem would come back. Any thoughts what this could be? Any links or help would be appreciated...this is really frustrating
.
Thanks,
Edwin

Get a new main battery, the warning you have is concerning the main battery not the "accessory battery" (auxiliary battery is primarily for the SBC brakes).
You may need a new mechanic too.....

One thing I can say -- lock the car at night or if you are away for a long time. My car is in my garage and for the first couple of months, I would not lock it at night -- had battery issue b/c of it. Perhaps this is too easy a fix, but I hope it helps.

I forgot to mention, MBZ installed a new main battery a year ago...and the mechanic, i know enough about cars to know he knows what he's talking about, and he's stricly a MBZ and BMW mechanic.

i was worried that would be the case. the warranty just ended a few months back and i know those are big $ items. How much did it end up costing you for the alternator and the voltage regulator?

Yeah it sounds like you need to get your alternator replaced. If it comes back that is what I would try. The same thing happened to my friends 55 and it cost him over a grand to fix at the Stealership. Good luck, hopefully it never returns!
