60 ft. times on stock tires?
#2
not sure what the official 60 ft's have been but I can tell you it must not be too good. Seems like whenever I tried launching with the Conti's I just spin no matter how gentle I am with it on launch. ESP on or off...
Thats why I switch to an R compound tire and went with the Toyo R888's have been on them a couple weeks now and man what a difference!
I only went to the track once wth the stock tires on it and dont recall my 60 fts being all too great.
I am going to MIR with a bunch of people from here on Monday and am hoping to greatly improve my launches. When it comes to drag racing in my 63 im a total noob other then practicing on the street which is totally different.
Hopefully someone has some real times for stock tires on 60 fts for you.
On monday night I will post my best times to give an idea of what these Toyo's do for hookup.

I am of limited help here because I ran on the stock contis only a few times before switching to PS2's. In my experience, track prep is far more important than what street tires you are running on. Launch technique is also more important.
Best time I recall for stock Conti's was 1.81 at Englishtown. But that was before I learned how to launch the car. I was preloading instead of trusting the torque to pull me out.
I swapped my conti's for PS2's at 6,000 miles and was getting high 1.8's and 1.9's on my next couple of trips to the strip. I complained on this board about how they were great for corners, but not impressive at the strip.
Then, at an Atco rental, I was able to pull a 1.66 and 1.68 (from memory) and settled into low 1.7's. It was a combination of great track prep, getting the tires nice and hot with burnouts in the waterbox (a controversial thing) and patience at the tree. I stopped preloading and instead lifted completely off the brake and rolled into the gas. I later upped the rears to 275, but I have not obtained better 60' times.
On those same tires, I have been at the track and been unable to crack below 1.9's. If the track isn't good on that day, forget it.
If I had to do it all over again, I would probably put Toyo R888's all around and just be prepared to replace the rears every year.

Thats why I got the R888's Went through a set of Conti's...bought a second set and after about a 2 months took them off for the R888's
LOVE THEM!!! I have had both the Contis and the Michelins as described above and would have to say they are 2 or 3 times more sticky and better handling then either of the other tires I have had.
Yes they will need to be replaced more often.

it's definitely possible to get some great 60ft times on street tires, although i can't comment on the oem contis. my toyo t1r's are good for relatively consistant 1.71's which is near identical to my times on drag radials (because of ecu limitations).

yeah the R888's would be perfect for you out there....
Only downside which doesnt bother me too much is when you get up above 45 they are a little noisy tread. For as sticky as they are...who cares!

yes compared to the Conti's they are 2X as noisy...4X stickier....1/2 the tread life.....2X better in Rain....
1000X worth it !!!
Again these would be the closest to drag radials you can get in a street legal tire.
heres a link to their website... Check out the tread...its an awesome tire

I never had stock tires on the car, but with the Toyo T1Rs, I regularly cut 1.77-1.82 with the lower 1.7xs coming with excellent track prep.
oldgixxer, a 1.80 is booking on Contis....nice job.

Thanx ChicagoX.I did a get a *lil* bit of wheelspin off the line&then when grabbing 2nd gear on the 1.80 pass so I think low 1.7's would be realistic with D/R's
