you can do all the mods you want to your 350 but in the end you still drive a 350. That AMG & 6.3 AMG emblems wont change that. And one day when you least expect it someone with a real one is gonna want to race and you will have to bow your head or make excuses for why you wont/cant run against a real AMG.

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA What if you could turn your practical, everyday car into your dream ride, just by slapping on a sticker? More drivers are doing just that, putting on emblems from posher cars, hoping to fool and impress people. 3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan has what you should know about badging.

There's a new trend on the road: car owners trying to fake it, making it look like they're driving high performance, luxury versions of the cars they really have. It's called badging.

"They might, for instance, take a Chrysler 300 that has a V6 and put a Hemi badge on it to make it look like it's got the more expensive and more powerful V8 engine," said Jamie Kitman of Automobile Magazine.

You can buy emblems online; some dealerships even sell the stickers.

"The benefit is telegraphing other people very quickly that you have more wealth than you really have, perhaps and that you have more prestige," said Kitman.

One popular example? Mercedes owners are putting AMG badges on their cars to make it look like they bought the more expensive, fine-tuned version, which is about 20 to 30 thousand dollars more.

"It gives the person the opportunity to change their image, to create a different feeling about what they own and what they drive," said Mercedes dealer Garth Blumenthal.

Experts say it's not just luxury car owners. Dodge Chargers and Magnums are often badged along with Chryslers.

Sounds like harmless fun, right? Yes and no.

"If you're a consumer going out and buying a used vehicle and you're looking for, perhaps, a tuned vehicle like these with the bigger engines, you certainly want to be aware of what you're buying," said Robyn Eckard of Kelley Blue Book.

In other words you don't want to pay for a luxury model when it's really just a badged cheaper version.

How can you tell? Look for the vehicle identification number or VIN in the door jam of the car and then research it.

"The Vehicle Identification Number tells you exactly what that car is and what options it has on it," said Eckard.

Badges can run anywhere from about $4 to $50 or $60. If you are buying a used car through a dealership, they are legally required to let you know if a car has been rebadged.

Question we need a plan.

So what can we do?
I have been trying to figure out something to do to these posers, other than rev my engine and cut them off.

We need a plan of attack, what we should do if we see there car parked, what we should do if we see one on the road moving, something that all AMG drivers do to AMG posers, something they will get sick of or hear about, so they never do it again. engine rev + cutoff isn't good enough, sometimes I am not sure they even know why I did it. I also like to give them thumbs down and so on.

Too much energy is wasted on these posers...laugh it off to lack of knowledge, lack of confidence, and lack of money. The last part isn't being uppity.

When I had a CLK430 I loved it but at that time I couldn't afford the CLK55...just reality. I just worked harder and saved money to afford the AMG internals (i.e. engine) to match the AMG looks...

+1 I'm with you. We need to come up with something to diss these POSERS! Make them feel little! Let's put our mind to it guys! If I see another one, I'm going to go nuts! I would at least put something on their windshield letting them know they are POSING! We've all paid good money for the real deal. Let's stop this posing! Maybe we'll get on the news.

I'm gonna carry some fishing wire with me and if I see one parked, I'm going to do all of us a favor and do a quick debadge job.

I still think the root of the issue lies with AMG themselves. They need to stop offering AMG kits as an option. Kill off posers from the start.

I think MB and AMG did their part by actually having the sport packages and real AMGs all totally different body kits on the new models. The rest is just on the poseurs.

I just had my mom call out a poser. We were just having lunch at a restaurant and I was outside on the phone when I saw a dual exhaust CLS55 AMG. Douche. I went back in and I saw 2 guys sitting at the table next to us who I thought were probably the owners. Keep in mind that my mom is the sweetest, nicest person who has ever walked this earth (not solely my opinion) I told my mom exactly what to say, this was the convo.

Mom: Is that your AMG outside?
Douche: Yes it is, its nice huh?
M: Ya I like it a lot
D: Thanks, it took me a long time to find one that I liked
M: Ya, but I have a question. How did you manage to get one with only 2 exhaust pipes? I never liked the 4 pipes.

At that point I started laughing so he knew I was messing with him and he just turned around. My mom felt bad, I felt liberated. Lol. Funny as hell.
