I hate not being in control
So I hate it when machines try to make decisions for me ...
This seems to be fairly common with this car. For example, whenever I select the recirculate button when I have the A/C on, the car decides after some period of time that I really don't want that and de-selects it. Why? Is there a way to stop this mechanical intervention of my decisions?
Similarly, when I turn on the ***-warmer, it decides over time that it should turn it down. Why? If I want it lower, I'll hit the button myself. I can't stand this ... it's probably fear of a frivolous lawsuit from some thin skinned individual that might burn their butt by leaving it on high thereby ruining it for the rest of us. Anyway, is there a way to stop this?
Thanks for listening to my little rant for the day.

Constant recirculation of the a/c is not allowed by by the car because eventually you need to start introducing fresh oxygen back into vehicle for you to continue breathing.
As for the butt warmers they don't run constantly because they require a high amount of amperage. By shutting them down after a while, the car is preventing damage to the seat warmer element and seat leather caused by the high temperatures.

I didn't make it up. That's information as per mercedes.
Mercedes previously had a DTB for a/c odors, in which we needed to close the recirculation flap for more than 15 min. to clean the system. They required that we call in for each individual vehicle that needed a cleaning, and obtain a password just to unlock the screen in DAS that allows us to permanently close the flap. In the DTB there was a note stating that when done with the cleaning the setting for the flap needed to be set back to the 15 min. limit for the reasons I had stated before.

while we're on the subject. Why does the car sometimes run the on startup AC, even though its not switched on. Also, why does it not shut off when I turn it off after its been on??

when I start the car in the morning, even though the AC button is not on, there is "AC" air that comes from the car for a while.
the other question, when I run the AC and want to turn it off, it doesnt shut off immediately. It still blows cold air for a while also.

Thanks for the input folks. I've been in cars that turn down the seat warmers over time, but I've never seen a car automatically revert to fresh air after selecting recirculate. I'm having a hard time with the whole lack of oxygen reasoning, although I was getting really sleepy on the ride home yesterday after repeatedly hitting the recirc button so who knows

The five-and-dime rules!!! Any special lump under the hood? I've seen a few rotaries as well as some RB26's under 510 bonnets.
Never thought about the recirc thing that way, excellent point. Survival is important.
