I like! Looks heavy though

That's pretty much what I want to do with my car, the major problem i see is routing a pipe without going smaller, past the radiator on the sides.

Both pipes are about 7 lbs.

I used 2.75'' (the same size as pipes) rubber connectors to go through radiator support.

I don't know, it seems like the longer tube will negate and benefits retrieved from "colder" air. Think of drinking from a straw vs. a hose.

Only a dyno with a fan will tell. I say it's gonna be a wash.

So what's the difference between this cold air piping, and all those fancy Carbon Fiber air/boxes python/tubes VRUS/VRP made that cost a few thousand bucks?? Cheaper alternative that'll prolly net the same gains?
from Vadim:Here is the same design on E55 - currently in testing.

and if you really like'em, as far as i know there are a lot of sizes, width, lenght , dia
it's a pity because they are a few km from my home but I don't like a lot the idea of modding my bay appearance
but, should they make 20+hp .. I'd re-think

What car was this on?? I'm all for cutting stuff away, is there enough room on the side of the radiator in the E55 to cut for a bigger pipe?

We need to find the gains here. Looks like everyone is doing the same basic design, but with what gains? I am hoping to have a setup ready for dyno day. I will test my car with stock, cf, and FIPK setups and see what difference there is. i am also testing a new cooling prototype to see if it is in any working range.

They test fitted on my car. It takes a few minor mods to that area. Note the horn is moved, etc. The holes by the radiator are the gate for sure.

Ah ok. I think it would be easy enough to relocate the horn.

I am roughly trying to do the same thing, bring a few fab'd up ideas for CAI's with me to the dyno day and see what works best.

There is no cutting, just removing factory plastic pieces. Everything can be reversed if needed.

Will be at the muffler shop bending tubes so we'll see what happens.

I will bring my laptop with NOLOGY to log cars.

Also our "FANGS" prototype to see what it will do on different power level 55s.

+1

When I first looked at my intake I was suprised, the intake ports are anemic and the fins don't help.

Big difference, mostly in client needs. As you pointed out, the CF box is one way to get similar gains. It is expensive (could you make them out of hard plastic?) but they maintain the OEM maintenance process. That is key. The "fangs" don't, but are trick.

Ours picked up about the same power...

I've tried 3 different styles / setups and I agree with Vadim that welded SS is best.

Have to say I am surprised to hear SS is a good insulator...

I am waiting to see data between doing that and just running new 3" pipes from the airbox THROUGH the radiator fins. If you look at the, you can shave the sides and it will allow a 3" tube through. I know, cause it is done and maybe the butt felt something maybe not. Right now (finally), the car is just a monster so a little bump may only be seen on the dyno/track. My next step is to replace the airbox with 3" tubes and add the cone filters at the end to see if that will make enough of a difference. that is when I started to fiddle with the TB so much and got to wondering about making it larger.

IMO, even a dyno with fans is not going to really show you what you would gain. Real test is at the strip.

I'd like to also know if anyone is going to release something soon before I go off having a custom intake setup made.

Here's what I did yesterday...

Intake tubes from a Lamborghini Gallardo... designed better and looks better:

Here you can compare the inside of the stock intake tube versus the Lamborghini one...
