SL-55 Intake Swap
I'm picking up my E55 tomorrow and have been looking into the snorkel swap that many people have been talking about. I stopped by the parts department today and the guy pulled out the A113-094-2182 and also the E55 air baffle and I saw the fitment issues people were complaining of. After messing with that I went into the showroom and popped the hood on an SL-55 and I got the part number for the intake snorkel which was A113-094-1682. I couldn't find the part number for the air baffle though, nor could the parts guy. Does anyone know if the SL55 air baffle will fit on an E55? And if so, does anyone have the part number? I'd prefer to just swap everything and keep all the stock parts just in case something happens down the road.
I also ordered the Green Filters... Should be a fun week!
Thanks in advance for the help,
Paul
I can't find part numbers for these pieces to compare but I could call up the parts department I suppose...
If they are the same the only thing that would need to be changed are the two snorkel pieces and the air baffle/radiator shroud and you'd have a full SL55 intake for about $100.
Any input?
Paul
Edit:
From what I found these are all the SL55 part numbers for the entire intake:
Passenger Side Inlet/Snorkel: 113-094-1682
Driver Side Inlet/Snorkel: 113-094-1782
Passenger Side Airbox w/filter: 113-090-0601
Driver Side Airbox w/filter: 113-090-0501
Y Pipe: 113-094-0103
Hose 1 (passenger side I believe): 113-094-2382
Hose 2 (driver side I believe): 113-094-2482
Does anyone know the E55 #s? I don't have my car yet so I can't check without a trip to the dealership... Would anyone be able to run out to their car and check?
Thanks Again,
Paul

Thanks for the heads up, I will look into that.
Does that mean that the splitter and hoses are different on the SL55 than those on the E55? If so, I'd assume they are a bit larger?
I really need to figure out if the air baffle for the SL55 will fit an E55 but I can't find the part number for that anywhere... I called a few dealerships but all wanted a VIN #, does pulling one of Ebay work or do they require more verification?
I'm also looking for as many part #s for the E55 as possible to compare the parts, if anyone has part #s for any part of the intake assembly for the E55 please post them.
Thanks Again,
Paul
The only Air Baffle I can find on the SL55 is a left and a right now, part # 230-505-0730 and 230-505-0630 respectively...
When I looked under the hood of the SL55 today it didn't appear to have a left and a right, it looked just like the E55 one... The Air Baffle on the E55 is part # 211-500-1516 and is called a "On Radiator, Top" Air Baffle rather than a left and a right...
Vadim, or anyone, do you know how the SL55's air baffles work?
Thanks,
Paul

You can make them fit, but the ones from S55 fit better.
We decided to go ahead replace the drivers side intake tube with the SL55 drivers side intake tube (product number A113-094-1682).
First we took out the stock intake tube. We took the new SL55 intake tube, used a heat gun and a clamp to slowly mold the shape of the front end to match that of the stock tube.
Then, simply stick it in where the stock tube was. We had to compress the accordion part of the tube while installing and it takes a few tries to get the intake tube to match directly with the front air baffle.
Overall the process itself took about 30 minutes and cost maybe $9.50.
Hope this helps anyone who has ever contemplated doing it!

Although this may be in my head, I feel like the throttle is slightly more responsive with this done.

no wait....we have that already.....Welcome to MBworld........
BTW, just because a surface is smooth, it doesn't always necessarily mean it provides better airflow. I once remember seeing a airflow test on a smooth ball vs. a rough surfaced ball and guess which one had the least air resistance..

Just saw you drive a different car.
Either way, if you have seen the drivers side intake snorkel, you would think differently about your statement.
