Tire question...

Is it possible to fit a 305 tire on the rear without rubbing and spacers?

A 305 will fit, BUT you MUST get the proper width rim and offset. it will be VERY close. 295s are hard enough not to rub. to me, rubbing at all is a NO!!

It all depends on the size of the wheel and the offsets.

I was more-or-less saying that it doesn't matter whether they are Lowenhart, HRE, or American Racing wheels... It all depends on the size and offset of the wheel.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a 305 tire is best suited to an 11 inch wide wheel? I know 275's go perfect on a 9.5 inch wide wheel, and my Z06 had 10.5 inch wheels with 295's stock.

I think 285's on stock rear wheels is a bit of a waste. Looking at the way my 275's fit on the wheel, you can see that the sidewall is tllted out a bit from the bead to the shoulder. 285's probably are not good for wear. Not saying that they won't fit, but they probably won't sit the way they should.

Disclaimer: I am talking about keeping the rolling diameter the same, but just getting wider rims and tires. 20s, etc. rub in different ways.

On our rears, yes an 11 would be ideal, but would likely need some lip curling. They are already folded, but left as a bulge so they actually rub on the INSIDE. No need to roll the OUTside, except on the fronts.

The issue with W211s is the INSIDE is setup with the sub-frame posts being right at the sidewall of the tires. Also the drivedrain bows under load and so what may not rub at standstill may rub in life. The key is to find that fine line where it is. On the outside, the top of the fender is the first part that hits as you go wide.

I am not saying it can't be done or that someone doesn't make them. i just haven't seen them and would BET they have major rolled fenders.

yes. The rears are slightly smaller diameter than the fronts. this just helps balance it out, but the 245/40s are HUGE.
