SC Clutch Upgrade - 2005 to 2006
I have read several posts relative to members who have had their SC clutch upgraded to the 2006 unit, which addresses the chirp and jerk when the clutch engages. My 2005 will be out of the MB warranty in a few weeks, and I am anxious to get this upgrade done.
My SA usually works with me, but he does not believe that MB will support this upgrade. Is there a specific bulletin from MB that authorizes it? Alternatively, could someone give me contact info for their SA who did their upgrade, so I can contact them directly?

HAHA!! No disrespect, but nobody is going to "ratt" out their SA/Tech over this. A bright animal once taught me that you can see what "condition" the clutch has been through by taking a look at the color of the metal that houses it. I had never thought of it, but if the clutch is slipping, there will be heat and metals can change color by temp. Mine is an '06, but has lived a good life and is now slipping (still works, just takes a squeel or maybe its a shreek, to get grabbing). The metal has gone from looking black to almost blue. I can ask where he learned that from, but I think it may just be experience.

I once complained about the chirp... and I got it replaced under warranty. But I'm not sure whether I got the '06 or still the '05.
The chirp is gone but the jerk is not.

As usual, it's all up to each dealer. If they are jerks, you can jump up and down and they will tell you to get lost.
Cool ones usually will replace no prob if you ask um.

I love the look people give when I go shopping and chirp it over speed bumps.
I had an old G60 Corrado that had no S/C noise. If i buy a turbo or S/C sports car, I want to hear those noises.

Though you might like the sound of it, it is not healthy and the sc is not engaging as quick so therefore you are slower.

I don't know that I buy that as I have owned 3 blown benzs which all chirped. It is just a very quick chirp as the clutch is engaged. While the new one is quieter, it is not necessarily faster engaging unless the old one is actually slipping and a quick chirp is not really a slip.

S/C Clutch Replacement Work
My SA was able to locate a bulletin from MB that authorizes the replacement of the S/C clutch. I got the upgrade to the new clutch just days before my warranty ran out, and I'm very pleased with the results. The chirp is gone, and the jerk is almost imperceptible. I have attached a scan of the work order to enable other members to facilitate this upgrade, as it is my understanding that most SAs are unaware of their ability to replace the clutch under warranty. I am posting this info with my SA’s permission.

SC Clutch Upgrade - 2005 to 2006
I go to the same dealer that Zigurat goes to, but I do not have the same SA. My 2005 chirp/stumble was acknowledged by them two years ago and was told the same canned story they all have told us about the chirp. Recently, my SA told me that they do not take the car onto the road to hear the noise, more specifically, they put a sensor on the blower and listen for a sound at idle??????????????? Is this BS?? He also said that if they replace the "defective" part, that the chirp/stumble will definitely still be there. Is that true???? Does anyone have a copy of the MBZ service bullitin addressing the issue. So, if I do not pass the "sensor" test, how do I influence them to replace the clutch assembly so that the noise and stumble go away???
