I know there are a gazillion posts and a billion tests on all the radar detectors available. My question here is: Has your radar detector and what brand ever failed and you have got a speeding ticket? I personally have a Passport 8500 in each car and it's never failed me. One of the Passport's needs to be replaced (HEAT STROKE FROM THE DESERT
)and I'm considering looking into the Valentine1 just out of curiosity.
The Valentine1 seems a little more pricey than the Passport 8500 but I'm curious. All of the radar tests place the Valentine1 below the Passport in Distance warning and that seems to be crucial. What is your experience with these two detectors. Thanks in advance!

I use the V1, it failed me once but that was more my fault because i basically ignored it and kept going 90. Its saved my *** more times than i count though, and im pretty sure it picks up signals further than other radar detectors.

V-1 all the way!
Once you learn how to "read" what it's trying to tell you, and if you listen, it will save you time and again.
It will have a hard time with sneaky LIDAR (all brands do), but even then I feel its the best one out there.
Of course, nothing will save you from the old VASCAR system, or an aerial timing by plane or copter...

V1 failed, but not in a trap situation. I noticed that it was failing to trigger at a known spot that I drive everyday. So I call Valentine, and they tell me that it may need reprogramming. Once they get it, they call me and say it's going to cost $100 to reprogram. I explaind that the unit was only 2 years old, and they still wanted $100. Don't get me wrong, the V1 has saved me more times than I can count. Coupled with the Blinder Laser Diffuser, I feel very safe/confident at 100MPH+. But, for them to charge $100 to reprogram seems unreasonable. They advertise that their unit is so great, then it fails in 2 years and I have to pay? Where's the logic there?

Jumpin in here boys!! I own, the 8500, the 9500i and the 9500 iX in addition to 3 V-1s. (headquarters hates the V-1, goes off too much in the city. Damn X band is ridiculous and no one really uses it any more. I was the first guy in the USA to break the news about the new 9500iX Passport on radardetector.net about one month ago. . See me under radardetector.net. This new unit (the 9500iX) has both radar and NOW check this out, tells you where the speed cams and redlight cams are (and there's a ton in Chicago NOW and Florida and AZ too. !!!). It comes in only blue LEDs , is GPS enabled and technology wise, blows the V-1 out of the water. I love my V-1s, but this one is quiet, rarely falses and now that I've used it three (3) weeks, am convinced that this is the future of radar/lidar and camera detection. Try one, you got 30 days to give it back if you dont like it. Sorry Mike, V, love your units, BUT the new iX has the V-1 beat to hell.
Its quiet, rarely falses, covers all the bands, is easily programmable and is about the same $$ as a V-1. Basically, the 9500iX is the same as the 9500 ci, cept that its better in that its portable. Best of all , BOTH the 9500iX and the 9500ci (remote) units (not the v-1) can be updated online with a USB cable for the latest camera locations and also firmware (if they change frequencies etc etc). I've done mine once already and its real easy. If you have a 9500i , you can upgrade to the iX for 129.95 and send your old one in. Its simple.

Dont mean to hijack here, BUT the 9500 iX Passport is upgradeable in all ways ON line with a USB cable right to the unit!!!

V1 was great...up until I got pinched by a laser going 50 over the limit (not as reckless as it sounds
)
It's great for conventional radar. Worthless in laser or instant-on radar situations. Blinder is a must for the next car....

If you are FIRST in line when the cop paints you with his unit (laser, Ka, instant-on -- it doesn't matter) all detectors will fail you. You'll just know you've been painted... and you'll have enough time to spot the cop and watch him get into his car, or hop on his bike to come get you... before you even pass him.
I've had this happen to me twice, and I've owned the best Passports, BELs, etc. V1 will be no better.
If you are in a school of fish and the shark bites someone in front of you, you will have enough warning to get out of the way with any of these three market-leading RDs. The trick is not to be lead fish in the school when the cop sets up.

The V1 has never failed me.
A couple weeks ago I was on the 5 in SO Cal headed north through Irvine at around 90. I picked him up and he was a few lanes over merging to an off-ramp that turns to an onramp and I kept on speeding. I thought he was going to play the off and on thing and he did. My radar worked the whole time. Arrows back and forth and he tried to run up on me when he got back on and I was doing 65 in an inner lane and he slowed down looked over then sped off.
V1 Pwnage.

If you don't like it, Get a V-1, no harm, no foul!!! Its all a matter of personal preference. I own BOTH the V-1 and the 9500i and the 9500IX; I prefer the iX due to all the redlight cams being put up in Chicago and the burbs!! Its great on K and Ka, you can easily lock out X and POP, which most experts do.
I'd call Escort if you bought within the past 2 months. Perhaps they can do something for you?? Do you feel the same way when Benz comes out with a new AMG and you have the old model??? Thats the way of the street my friend. There's always something newer, better and more expensive out there.

I've never looked at it as failing me, but my V1 has told me when I need to pull over a few times- always w/laser. Installed a Blinder and I have been ticket free since

Good move!!! Blinder or LI, that'll work!!!
![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
Yes, all detectors with Laser are pretty much ticket notifiers. You can also try Veil as that will reduce the distance they can get you at.
