Can you mount these inside without a cord hanging down and plugging into the cigarette lighter - looks like crap. I want to permanently mount it inside my car? Easy to do? Does the passport run off batteries, or power cord only.

There's a DIY for hard-wiring in an E55 somewhere on the forum.

Your worst nightmare...
I have the 8500 blue, I have had it for about 3 years now. Have not had 1 ticket ever since. Talk about an investment. When I travel to florida or where ever saves me everytime.

I have heard that if you return the 8500 for an upgrade credit will be given towards the purchase of an upgrade. Has anyone heard this...i may step up to the 9500 ci..

I spoke to the folks at Escort and they indicated that there is a $80 or so Credit for upgrading to the 9500iX. Not much but it will more than pay for the 3 year "update" feature that can be purchased. The Valentie guys have no notion of "the Redlight" camera function. It may not be important if you live in the country but in the city red light cameras are a huge revenue source for the local governments!

It all depends on your needs and what you like in the device.

does the passport have a database for cameras or do you have to program each and every one you know of yourself?

I just a 9500iX a few weeks ago...

I live in SoCal but drive the 5 up to the Bay Area often. Used it to cruise up the coast & back down the 5 last weekend. It warned me (Ka) on 3 occassions & then I saw the CHP heading in the opposite direction.

Works well for red light cams (although somewhat annoying when it goes off from the freeway). It would be nice to have a directional indication, though.

At any rate this is my 1st radar unit & I'm still learning it's warnings. Pretty cool though. Wanted to try the 9500iX to see how it is, but the whole cord thing is pretty annoying. May get a 9500ci for stealth install & use the other for the cars I don't drive much...
