Talking I bought it, Best Choice for me!

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/254747-radar-detector-ever-failed-you.html

I just purchased the Passport 9500iX directly from Passport inc.. It's an expensive little B$tch.
After my own experience and all you guys chiming in, I felt that the 9500iX best suited my driving needs. I drive a lot in my line of work and wanted the best protection for me and the Passport 9500iX after all the comments would give me the best protection.

V1 guys dont get me wrong, I think the V1 is a good alternative but the 9500iX with its new features not available in the 9500i would best protect me in my travels.

Thanks again guys and keep your IC pump in proper working condition

I have a V1 and a Passport 8500....I think I'm ditching both for a couple of 9500ix units. Chicago is adding a few cameras.

ya, very nice unit. It is really unfortunate that these days that the only really reason to get a radar detector is for the traffic cams...

but very good choice!

Be careful. I've got a 9500 and have been nailed 3 times in the past 6 months by instant-on cops hiding out beside the roads or coming over hills. Now that city/state coffers are all way down, our local traffic swine have been encouraged by their superiors to step up the enforcement/revenue generation to levels I've not seen in 20 years of driving.

Sorry to hear Hazy1! How far away were they? Did they use Ka or Laser?

We have the same problem here in California with our "Revenue Seekers" My current 8500 goes off all the time with real threats
and It's affected my driving overall.

Talking Consider it an "Investment"

AMGfan: It would be definitely worth it. When you think of how many times these devices save you and the associated downside cost of each "SAVE"
it quickly pays for itself and becomes a "Good Return on Investment".
Good luck to you. Has your K40 saved you?

It has...but I've been really wary of not being the only one on the road when I test the limits of the law (those laser traps are a biatch when you are all by your lonesome)......plus I'm pretty familiar with the speed traps and times of the month the FHP have been out on the highway.

I've been saved or warned most of the time within city limits of Tampa.

Since using the 9500 (almost 2 years I think), I've had them get me twice with instant on while cresting a hill, once when hiding on the side of the road, twice pacing me in unmarked cars, and the worst was a state trooper in AL going under the limit on I-65 at 1am and he hit me with instant on as I approached from behind with not another vehicle in sight for miles in any direction.

I am waiting to see if the last one that I just got qualifies me for license suspension (too many in too short of a time period). The crazy thing is, I have driven the same way for 20 years and have always averaged about 1 ticket per year, which I just paid and forgot about, but the past 2 years have been simply ridiculous.

Does anyone know if there is a similar product on the market that can be "hidden" in the car? Often when a trooper stops you, he is a bit more lenient if he does not see a radar detector mounted to the windshield.

+100, They are out in force to collect as much "infraction revenue" they can get. My Passport SRX never fails and is so sensitive that I can get a chirp from an instant on radar 5 miles away. Always believe your passport.

I think you made the right choice. I wish I would have made that purchase.

I paid the same amount for my V1 (Etched mirror display) and I have no laser shift capabilities. As a matter of fact, I have been hit two times directly with Laser and my detector did not go off.

Congrats; I have the 8500 and I love it. The unit has paid for itself many many times over. The cool thing about it is that you can get the Shifter Laser Jammer and hook it up directly to your Radar Detector so the Laser Jammer will display alerts in the Radar Detector's display. Pretty niftty...

What? You guys stop for blue lights?

Instant On radar won't be beaten by a radar detector and us slamming on the brakes. The only chance you have is if he is pinging someone ahead of you. V1, Passport, whatever, it doesn't make a difference.

Anyway, I am interested in checking out the Passport. Evidently, the V1 isn't the holy grail of radar detectors anymore...

Not to start a holy war or anything but even Radar Roy agreed that the V1 filtering was sub-par. Mind you I've never used, or know anyone who is using a V1 so you might want to take my comment with a grain of salt.

I'm not so tied in to any one product that I would jump in to a holy war! Seriously, I want to be an educated consumer, not a blindfolded one.

I'll read through the link but,...filtering would just be the sensitivity to false detection, yes? Or does it have to do with sensitivity in general to signals?

Ah...

However, Radar Roy and other reviewers have all agreed, that the filtering on the Valentine 1 is inferior. So much so that in the November 2004 issue of Autoweek magazine's review, they called the Valentine 1 the "Chicken Little of radar detectors".

Couldnt agree more.....my brother is a cop and we have played with various radar detectors including the V1. All failed miserably. The only real chance of picking him up was him getting someone else way ahead of you.

But the cameras...thats a different ballgame...

I believe filtering in this context applies to to the sensitivity to false signals. My 8500 picks up signals on the K-band near gas stations that have wireless A.P. and at times it also picks up signals from truckers that are around me.

Damn insomnia...just ordered the 9500ix. I was about crazy enough to get the 9500ci, but I already have the K40 Calibre and I don't think I have enough mounting room for both the Calibre and ci laser jammers beneath the front bumper. Whatever the case...I really like the GPS marking feature and the photo camera database.

Nice; congrats ! Whenever you have a chance post a quick review of it here. I'm sure a lot of us would be interested what a real user thinks about it.

No problem...its on a 1 week backorder...but as soon as I get my hands on it I'll try some false alarm and speed trap testing. I'm South of Tampa and just driving the 20 or so miles to Tampa, there are at least 2 speed traps which I'll mark on the GPS.

I'm really interested in buying a detector because I drive real hard. I see your comment and makes me think twice.
