Charcoal Filters on uk cars?
Hi guys, I read a lot on here about charcoal filters and the benefits of removing them.
Could anyone tell me if they are fitted to e63's over here in the uk, and if they are does anyone have a easy to follow guide including pictures as I'm not the most technically minded person in the world!
Also, what sort of hp/torque gains are shown for removing them, and does it invalidate the warranty?
P's
I've done a search here for charcoal filters on uk cars but found no results.
Thanks guys.

not sure, but air boxes are easy enough to open and you cant miss them if they are there. You will see two filters inside each box. Not sure about exact numbers increase, but there is a difference in feel /response on throttle.

Also, I am getting an eisenmann race exhaust fitted next week hopefully if it has arrived. The cats are not getting removed. Unless that is part of the new system?
I've heard a couple of 63's on you tube and they do sound good, but due to the bad sound quality on you tube I can't tell if they are that much louder.
Eisenmann claim around 10db louder, but in real terms how much is that?
Twice as loud etc? And is there any hp gain?
I've always been a bit dissapointed with the quietness of the stock exhaust so would like to know if the low loud rumble will be there with the new exhaust.
Cheers.

Good to know UK doesnt put those charcoal things in their boxes. Easy enough to remove it either way.
Our 63s are throaty enough with just a resonator delete and some straight pipes. Much louder and almost too loud for a luxury sedan![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
As is everyone says they can hear me a coming from a mile away!

10db is allot. It means the sound pressure is 10 times higher, although roughly perceived by humans to be twice as loud...
Perception of Loudness (20dB = 4x)
Interestingly, our perception of loudness is not the same as sound pressure level. Although the actual formulae
is somewhat complex, as a rough rule of thumb, an increase of 10db SPL is perceived to be approximately twice as loud.
Thus a 20 Db gain would seem to be about 4 times as loud.
And a 40 Db gain would seem to be about 16 times as loud.
dB and Power (20dB = 100x)
When talking about power, 3dB represents a ratio of two to one or a doubling of power.
A gain of 10dB would represent a ratio of ten to one for power - so 10 dB will be 10 times the power
A 40dB power gain would require 10,000 times the power.

Great stuff guys, now I'm really looking forward too it, although I bet my neighbours arn't!
Also thanks for the information about the charcoal filters.
Time just seems to be running oh so slow waiting for this exhaust to arrive.
When I get it fitted I'll have to post a link on you tube for you all to hear
