Hello!

Greetings,
I am new to this forum; I’ve been lurking for a couple weeks. I am a former Honda Prelude (turbo) owner. I decided it was time to move on to a much more luxurious, faster and more reliable car, I was pretty much outgrowing it (surely I’m not the only one?). However, I did get addicted to forced introduction. I am now looking for an E55, but before I pull the trigger, I want to be assured this is the right car for me. To summarize; I am a torque FREAK, who is looking for a luxurious/ comfortable beast. Is the 55 right for me, in YOUR opinion?
Also, if you have any useful links that may help me with my decision, please send them my way.
Thanks for reading.
Regards,
Jonathan

You answered your own question. The only alternative to a 55K for you would be a V12TT. Torque rules.

It already has tons of torque straight out of the box...the more you mod, the more you will spend on rear tires...

LOL. Im not talking about mods (for now). What I meant was maintenance wise, anything that would make this car better, more reliable. I ask because I read somewhere that these cars tend to get to hot under the hood and this causes the SC to fail. I also see alot people change their IC pump, im assuming that will also help with cooling the engine/engine bay?
Just looking for some help from the gurus...

Wich year is best? I was thinking 05-06. I have my heart set on the 55.
BTW, benzoboi, nice ride, and I love your new HRE's.

The blowers don't fail, but rather are locked out by the ECU due to high IAT's when the POS Bosch intercooler pumps fail. A cheap fix. If you play in hot weather on a regular basis, an upgraded heat exchanger might also be a good idea. The late '05's and '06's will have the better SC clutch and steering rack, so yes, those are the best choices.

Best bang for the buck is 2003-2006 E55...all dependent on your price range.

Coming from a Dinan blown 540i, and a highly modded (tt) 930, the thing that surprised me (and you will come to love ) about the E55 is the bootfulls of torque available off the line. There is very little lag at any RPM, romp on it and you'll be concerned about staying hooked up.

Other than my (2000 lb., 500+ HP, 475 ft/lb at 3k RPM) Cobra kit car, this thing has more grunt down low than anything else I've yet driven. You will love it - smoke 'Vette's on freeway onramps while listening to the radio and enjoying your coffee on the drive to work.

I have been looking for a while now, I came across a Barolo Red and IMO the color is nice and unique. What do you think about this deep red?

Is it the one that's on Ebay? Although I'm not a huge fan of red -- or some variation thereof -- that car looks beautiful.

Quick question.

I know it's a land yacht, but any reason why you wouldn't consider an 03+ S600.

With simple ECU tune, they are fire breathing demons from hell.

Enough torque to require you to wear a neck brace when driving it and dirt cheap now.

Just an idea.

Everyone says they don't wanna mod at first, then once you get driving it, the process begins.

Otherwise, I would look for an nice 04 or 05 E and go for it.

03 is great but no Nav even though MB Nav blows.

Loving my 03. Runs great.

I know what you mean. I am sure I will mod it but nothing big for the first year... What do you think about Barolo red?

Well keep in mind there are some pretty good pricing deals out there on mods.

You can have:

LET tune

asp pulley

k&n air filters

cj030 pump

Code3 H/E

all that can be done for around or under $2500

And what I just listed should be good for around 80whpish? Not sure on torque. I am kinda new myself so if anyone wants to chime in with what i just said.

PS. You ask us about color choice, that is totally a subjective matter. What do you like? Its going to be your car.

I agree, but I just wanted a second opinion, you know. I liked the car so much, I finally decided to pull the trigger. Since I live in Montreal and bought the car from luxury motors, in Chicago, I will receive the car some time end of next week. I cant wait to see how much TQ this beast has to unleash

They took the car off their site so I cant post the link, but I will be sure to post pics once I get it.

Just thought I would share with my fellow MB'ers
Regards

I dont know what color red you found, but if its anything like burgandy I say go for it and black everything out (lights, rims, tints, emblems, grille). It would look beautiful (I think that's what I want for my next car).

The 05-06 also handle better than the 03-04. And about the intercooler, no need to change it right away. Wait til it dies (if it does) and then switch it out for a Johnson intercooler (I think thats the name of the company). Better than the stock intercooler and cheaper.

Also, after you get the car you should pick an MB dealership that you trust (what area do you live in? If you let us know we can tell you which shops are good) and make a good relationship with the service advisor. The SA is basically the bouncer to a club that you want to get into; he either has to like you or you're gonna have to pay him. I always had a good relationship with my SAs. It gets to the point where they will replace what you ask them too just because you say it doesnt feel right, and they let you keep a rental for a few extra days (dont want to put vacation miles on your car do you? lol). If it means giving him presents... give him presents.

Good luck, hope I helped.

I've done that in a LET/Code III modded C32, so yes, the E55 is more than capable of taking out Vettes and many other cars....................
