Sorry guys, literally just walked back in my door.

UNBELIEVABLE NIGHT.

I'll get down to it since I'm flat out exhausted, I'll fill in the details tomorrow.

I made my first pass of the night at 11:29 PM, after arriving at the track at 5:15PM. That's right, 6hrs of waiting for 1/8 mile cars (aka "door slammers") running high 4s to mid 5s to break every 3rd pass. I honestly don't think I could've picked a worse night to run...

Anyway, I only got 1 legimate pass in which was my first run, I also have it on video and will get it up asap tomorrow.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6qf83rLE80

60': 1.97 (2000rpm brake stall)

330': 5.27

1/8: 7.95@92.47

1/4: 12.19@116.46

This pass corrects to:

The closest weather results for 09/19/2008 at 11:29 pm

Time recorded 11:53 PM
Temperature °F 57.0
Dew Point °F 53.1
Altimeter Setting 30.22 Inches Mercury
Absolute Pressure: 29.31 Inches
Density Altitude: 768.3 feet
Track Elelvation: 853 feet

UnCorrected ET:
12.19 (sec) @ 116.46 (MPH)

Corrected ET to Sea Level:
12.092 (sec) @ 117.422 (MPH)

On my second pass which happened at 12:43 AM (LOL) I tried to raise my launch rpm to 2200, which I was successful in doing. The downside was I forgot to turn the ESP completely off--I have no excuse other than being slaphappy. I felt the car bog right off the line and knew the run was toast instantly.

60': 2.01

330': 5.34

1/8: 8.04@91.74

1/4: 12.32@115.46

This pass corrects to:

Overall I'm pleased with the results even though we didn't break 120mph. With a tenth better 60' on my first run I would've ran a 11.9, and had I not used DRs a 119+ trap would have been very realistic as well.
One last thing I'll mention before showering and passing out is that I ended up swapping back in my initial tune (I have 2 spare ECUs for my car) earlier today with the intent on testing both at the track tonight--obviously that didn't happen. The shifts on this ECU are set at 6/7 (1-10) and the shift points are 7100rpm. Next time I hit the track it will be with the more aggressive ECU (firmness at 8/9 and raised shift points) right off the bat.

I'm going to meet up with Rock for some roll action tomorrow morning (lol a few hrs from now I guess) so I'm sure I'll have more to add then.

I'll also get a video of the speedo/tach so you can witness the consistant redline shifting and what a freight train this car now is. Getting out of the hole is going to require some practice but once it gets moving mother of God does it move out. Also worth noting I hit 2200 miles on the way home tonight so the car is still rather green. My previous best was 12.89@111.5 (actual) with 600 miles on the car.

Sorry to rant on, I'm a bit delerious at this point but again will post more input tomorrow.

Thanks!
Andy

Gotta yank the tuner outa the seat and stick in a driver.

Andy, the fact you posted at all is great. You probably did not match the space shuttle launch, but hey, you are living up to the "right now" needs of the forum.

I will be interesting to come back and read the replies at noon tomorrow after I hang out with the exotics on Santana Row.

Jon,
They sprayed copious amounts of VHT on the track all night, the only thing I can think of as to why my short times are sucking is that there was too much rubber on the ground from the slicks (DOT went right after the Door Slammers which were all using big fat tubbed slicks). DOT tires like DRs/radials don't bite down on rubber like they do a bare concrete pad.
Otherwise it was my first time launching the car at the strip with DRs (plus tuning) and only my fourth/fifth passes overall in the car. No question, I need more seat time.
I'll head back to the track again next week and test the more aggressive cal and try and improve upon that .013 reaction time.

Thanks
Andy

I think your car is as fast as mine, numbers look identical to my CLS 63 VRP 530...

I ran in identical DA 12.15@ 116.56, but had better 60 ft times, 1.87 .

The shift point is KEY to the 63 and hitting 7100-7300 is very important .

Can you weigh your C63 at some point as well.

Thanks for posting look forward to seeing the vid

Hey Andy:

Just one question, how does the car bog off the line from ESP killing power, and only loose .04 seconds

When my ESP kicks in, it’s an eternity before the car comes back alive. Did you do something to the ESP?

Oh well, Nice runs and keep us posted.

See yeah

nice runs...

60's are not that bad, DR's didn't help you, but didn't hurt either.... car will go 11's with a good launch.....

need another 30HP or so to hit those 120's.... what did the car dyno at?

So what is the verdict here? Has MHP changed the tuning game? What gains can we hope for on already highly tuned E55's? So tired of waiting.

Juicee,
I plan on hitting the scales the next time they're open (they weren't last night).
I agree, I also think 7300rpm shift points are optimal for a stock longblock motor. If you don't mind me asking how did you pull your 1.87 short time? Also what was your 1/8th mile ET/Trap?

Thanks
Andy

So many possibilities including the fact that it would've been a better run than the previous had I not had the initial stumble. I also don't think it did much but nix some of the spin on launch (which would've actually helped vs bogging) since I have DRs out back I don't think the ESP had to do a whole lot.

Thanks Fikse.

I need to get the 60s down into the 1.8X range, which combined with just bumped shift points (200rpm) would definitely net an 11. Also remember that since I can't change gearing appropriately the DRs are actually hurting my trap speed by a few mph. IMO there's no question I would've spun my way to a 119-120 trap last night from a 2.1 60' with my stock tires.
I'm hitting the dyno Monday with this calibration, then will have both dyno/track results for V2 (aggressive cal) by next Fri.

Thanks
Andy

Andy, thanks for posting. Overall, these times are not too bad, but you'll probably need a 1.8 60' time to hit the 11s..... you're so close. Was there any other Benz's at the event? How did they do?

Well,
We knocked .7 off (60' only changed from 2.04 (stock tires) to 1.97 (DRs) and gained 5mph (despite going to DRs which cost MPH when you can't gear appropriately v street radials) with tuning/DRs. This despite testing the less aggressive calibration, the car having only 2000-2100 miles on it, and me only putting 1 (or 2 depending on how you look at it) pass/passes on the new combo.
Has anyone else gone 12.19@116.46 in a tuned (by someone else) C63?

Thanks
Andy

We're going to run quicker/faster this coming week no question, I just need to get the launch down.
No, though I did meet a E55 K4, and SLK 55 owner that was racing in the aforementioned Door Slammers event (69 Camaro, it was a beautiful car). Unfortunately he doesn't post on the net nor did he have either MB there.

Question for 63 owners, how much quicker/faster was your car after 5-6k miles compared to when it was newer? I would assume mine will get at least a bit stronger at that point?

Thanks

what size drag radials are you running, would have to be a rather large diameter change to make large changes....

It's a give/get relationship... so if the change would hurt your MPH, it's helping your ET's.....

Well, Looks like you did Good man. I feel that in a "REAL CAR" like an "CLS 63" (J/K) your tunning will shine. Sounds like a great time and a great run. Check out how strong your tunning gets with a seasond dragger.

Just got done doing a few rolls and one attempted dig (LOL) with Rock down in Mexico.
We didn't have a ton of time to chat after but I think we both agreed that whoever got the jump was the one that ended up in the lead. His car is quick no doubt, and I'd love to have some of that torque lol.
Lots of traffic down there this time of day so the next shot we take will be at Norwalk this Fri.

It's not the diameter effecting tq multiplication it's the fact that I'm not spinning at all and stall speed is still too low. On my first run (2000rpm launch) the tires bit instantly which put me about 2000rpm out of the band of the 6.2. Being that they only brought my 60' down .07 they definitely killed mph doing so.
Now if we could swap rear diff gears it would help a ton with this. Right now we're going to bump stall speed even higher for Friday.

It's a give/get relationship... so if the change would hurt your MPH, it's helping your ET's.....

Exactly. Unless the car is setup (geared) for DRs you're going to lose MPH but typically lower ETs. Unfortunately for me I only saw a .07 reduction in launch.

Here are a few of my similar slips. And yes the cars look very similar as the DA on the runs was close. My NHRA # is 760.

My best overall trap was 116.56 on a 1.91 60 ft March 3rd 2008 at 3:27 p.m Famoso Raceway.

My best 1/8th ET is 7.84 @91.96 on a 1.872 60 ft I believe this is my highest1/8th trap is 91.89 on the 116.56 slip from 3/3/2008.

Here are some vids of 116 traps ,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnm7mBqng0U
Here is my first run breaking 12.20
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMVuMRVht8o

My best 60 ft times come off idle, no power brake. My 1.69 was achieved on r comp track tires, michelin pilot sport cups.

Low 1.80's like Oldgixxer pulled daily are very difficult for most, try leaving off idle next time
