iPhone & E63 (Cradle)
08 E63 - so I paid $425 for this ipod thing and it won't even charge my iPhone... I have a new G3 iPhone, $300, so I am $725 in and don't have what I want =[ So I am considering this cradle, apparently that's $380... $1,105 for iPhone hooked to my benz? has anyone done this? if I get the cradle, can I still hook an iPod in the glove box, doesn't appear to have a damn thing to do with the $425 I already spent. Any thoughts, suggestions, anyone done anything with this?
Cost of iPhone/iPod in benz $1,105 + installation costs? $1,500? ...bang head on wall.
I'd better be able to remote start and drive my benz with my iPhone, using all that tilt **** =[
If anyone has done this, PLEASE tell me what all its capable of, other than charging and listen to music at the same time, which I can't do right now =[

I have the cradle for my E55 and 3G iPhone. It charges and downloads all contacts very nicely.
Here's a picture I took to show how the contacts are displayed. Now I can see all the numbers of my contacts.
However, my phone setup is not typical. I have the Euro COMAND and also the UHI kit installed by MBenzNL.
I still need to see if I can get the iPod connection to work still.

I have a new one for sale and it charges, downloads, and works well. I also have the bluetooth adapter and choose to use the adapter since my wife uses my car on occasion. If anyone is interested let me know.

UHI kit???
What else does it do? its supposed to do more in the command, my phone does all the contacts with bluetooth and such, I don't need to see there numbers, I can hook it to the iPod thing and play music.... I THINK! (deal made this not work(w/ my norm ipod) after changing nav stuff, so I need to have them fix it.
does it still have bluetooth, like for when I don't want to take it out of my pocket and call? Or if girlfriend uses car and has her phone hooked to car, w/o changing cradle, like bassn is talking about...
Anyone in an E63? I don't see where that cord and metal thing would go in my car... Pics?

I have a 2007 E63 with the factory installed iPod connection in the glove box. I have the original 8g iPhone and it syncs via bluetooth, displays my contacts via Comand, plays music and charges when plugged in to the adaptor in the glove.

I think UHI stands for Universal Handsfree Interface. I had it installed a while ago so that I could get the handsfree system working with any cradle. I didn't want to be tied to just the motorola one. Therefore, my phone system is more like the European one. Maybe that is why my iPhone integration yields different results.
One bad thing about the iPhone cradle is that it is necessary for the iPhone to be docked in order for other phones to make a bluetooth connection. If the iPhone is not in the cradle, then no other phones can connect to the Mercedes bluetooth.
I am hoping that my iPod connection in the glovebox can be rerouted into the center console so that a connection can be made to the cradle. I am still waiting to find out if this is possible since the glovebox connection is different from the cradle connection.

I constantly use Mercedes UCI iPod kit to run the iPhone. I don't know about the cradle. I simply connect via Bluetooth...BUT:
- Gotta set the radio to "External Authorization"
- Gotta go into the iPhone Bluetooth menu
- Then see "handsfree" or "MB" or such
- Click "UNPAIR" (yes, UNPAIR)
- Re-select "handsfree" or "MB" or such
Then the radio prompts about a passcode and all is good (unlike with my Samsung Stripe). Don't know why I have to unpair first-something about how the iPhone searches I guess. iPhone absolutely won't pair FROM the radio, it has to be External Authorization.
As for charging, you need a 12V-to-5V adaptor like this
http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm?connipod.htm
or
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID...productID/1667
or Alpine's upcoming KCX-422TR.
For home or car, get a quality piece. iPhone is very sensitive that the USB voltage be 4.75-5.25 volts under all conditions. I have a cheap China charger, and it only works sometimes...

I have been thinking about getting the cradle as well. I paid somewhere around $850 last year (I can't remember exactly how much) to install the iPod kit (the plug that goes in the glove compartment). I was not happy at all. At first it did not charge the iPods but they had crossed some wires in the installation and after visiting the dealer 3 more times they finally admitted that it was supposed to charge and fixed it. You can't use any of the iPod functions from the COMAND module, you have to use the steering wheel and speedometer display. Not too safe IMHO. I have the bluetooth module for my iPhone 3G and have thought about getting the cradle. However I, too, wonder if I'll lose my iPod kit. I use the iPod all the time. My understanding is that the COMAND console has only one external input (I may be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere) so I don't see how the two kits could co-exist.
