Just do a search and you will find a lot about this.

Stock for stock the E55 wins from dig to 1/4 mile...the M5/6 takes over after that.

Only at the dragstrip. But I have never run with a stock M5. With slightly modded ones (gears, ECU, drag radials, intake), I am usually a hair quicker (1/10th) and .5 to 1 mph faster through the traps. More modified M's with headers, etc. usually trap 120-122, but they are 1/2 second slower through the traps because they can't get out of the hole. M's are fairly hard to launch. And most of the really modded guys show up on 20 inch wheels, so they have no shot at good e.t.'s.

i ran into an m5 owner last night that was saying its a dog around the city streets, im guessing cuzz the 300tq vs 500hp but this guy had lots of mods including headers..

im guessing the m5 beats the e55 on a open freeway @ 3am when nobodys out, racing 65mph into tripple digits right?

Pretty much so ... as mentioned the S85 engine will trap better stock to stock and modded to modded (most of the time) the V10 gearing is set up for high speed runs. I personally have got a lot better at launching my M6 but Ill tell you this: I hate lining up with AMG's

We take it from a dig, they take it from higher speeds.

It's a proven fact. No way around it.

I never understood how the M5/M6 pulls on higher speeds dont they only have 384 ft·lbf TQ while the 55 engines have 516 TQ.

How do the M's pull away ??

Easily explained, torque only wins sprints (stoplight races) but horsepower will always win any race that gets upto higher speeds. Not to mention the M5 and M6 weigh less than the E55, more horsepower and lower weight = win everytime.

Yes but the e55 dynos show the same power as an m5, or even higher some times.

What you are missing here is the gearing & the SMG gear box with its fast shifts.
The M’s (v10 SMG M’s) are geared for higher top speeds and higher triple digit acceleration

Like others have mentioned from a dig with very good traction the 55k wins the 1/4 mile. on rolling high speeds the Ms pull

Yup, it's all about the gearing. I can cruise around town at like 45mph in 7th gear. Sometimes when I'm on a highway in 7th, I instinctively try to upshift because the RPMs seem just too high for cruising. The gearing on the M5/M6 makes it ideal for higher speeds. Also, if you put the settings in S6 it'll shift lightning quick.

M's have launch control, though I never tried it. The 500+tq of the 55k cars is pretty hard to overlook so I'm not sure how much LC helps from the dig.

I mentioned gearing up above and you guys all covered it completely, as for the launch control; the US version sucks. I think the max rpm is 1500 unlike the Euro one which is around 4k rpm I think

Beat one from the light then we shot down at 90mph. The second one rolling on highway took him easily at 70 then he slowly walked to a 1/2 car after 110 then we quit at 130. All stockers.

Absolutely correct! My lady had an E60 M5 for a while and I always hated driving it around town. I consistently felt the need to downshift before accelerating, which was somewhat bothersome. Though, once in the higher RPM's, and at higher speeds, it does pull very hard.

They lose to the 55s from a dig but take it in the top. Its very close though. Driver makes the difference IMO.

Ms I think they take from a dig. Not sure about high end but I think the Ms take it.

I highly doubt the M's take us from a stop. Considering an M5 takes an E55 up top, and an E63 takes E55 up top, I would think we could hang with the M's.

Haven't tried off the line, but I've taken a CLS63 in a very clean highway run, right before a head/cam Z06 destroyed us both.

Run went from 70 to 135 or so, and I had a few lengths on him. Then the Z06 took us at what had to be 165.

I got the M5 and I must say from high speeds I dont think 55 can hang. From a stop the e55 should take us by about a car or 2 and by 100 we should have a 1/2 car and keep pulling.
