E63 Front Conversion...Who's Going to Help Me ASAP?

I have my car stripped down for the conversion and am placing my final order for parts tomorrow morning. Can anyone help look over my list for me that has done this themselves?

I am ordering the following:

E63 Front Bumper
E63 Fogs X 2
E63 Repair Harness for Fogs (to get the connectors)
E63 Chrome Fog Trim X 2
E63 Chrome Bumper Trim X 2
E63 Tow Hook Cover
E63 Center Mesh for Bumper
E63 Foglight "Mesh" (actually cheap plastic)
E63 Grill for Distronic
E63 Front Engine Undertray
E63 Side Markers (going with the aftermarket clear ones)

Things I'm not sure that I need:

E63 Center Impact Foam (goes between bumper and crash beam)
E63 Left & Right Impact Foam (goes to either side of the piece above)
Retaining Bracket for Impact Foam (the E55 has this but not sure about the E63)
E63 Headlight Washer Covers (look like they may by the same as the E55 part)
E63 Brackets to Clamp Bumper to Fenders (I am told they are the same as the E55 part)
E63 Repair Harness for Side Markers (I'm pretty sure it is the same as the E55 part)

Any other parts that I'm missing from my list????? I have spent 2 weeks researching all the bits so it should be pretty close.

I am keeping the E55 headlights, mirrors, and rear bumper as I prefer them.

Thanks for any help with the list!

-Carl

answers below...
The curve of the bumper is different so will need to change in the inner pieces of the bumper.

E63 Center Impact Foam (goes between bumper and crash beam) - YES
E63 Left & Right Impact Foam (goes to either side of the piece above)- YES
Retaining Bracket for Impact Foam (the E55 has this but not sure about the E63)- if you are refering to the 3 plastic pieces YES
E63 Headlight Washer Covers (look like they may by the same as the E55 part) -not sure came with my bumper
E63 Brackets to Clamp Bumper to Fenders (I am told they are the same as the E55 part) -they are the same so NO
E63 Repair Harness for Side Markers (I'm pretty sure it is the same as the E55 part)NO

Many thanks as that answers most of my questions.

Any other parts I'm missing? I am pretty sure the crash beam is the same in both cars as no one I've talked to has replaced this.

The only other thing I could possibly think of was the hood catch in the event that the pull that sticks through the grill is not long enough.

When I am done with my conversion, I plan to post all the part numbers for other members future reference as this is not readily available anywhere that I have found as a complete list.

yeah you will need hood catch. I still have the orignal on but its a pain in the *** since it isn't long enough. Crash beam is the same. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I'll go take a look a the car maybe something will jump out at me. Not a hard conversion to do.. I did it my garage took me a couple of hours.

Not hard unless you have parktronic which I do (that is going to be a joy in and of itself) and the distronic grill is VERY spendy...it is $365 for the E55 and $650 for the E63 !

I will order the hood catch.

I will post when I am done but it looks like all the parts will retail at around $3,350 plus the paint and R & I charges from a body shop. You can subtract $250 if you don't have distronic as the grill is much cheaper. Bottom line, it is around a $3,600 conversion with a discount on the parts and the cost of redoing the clear-bra on the E63 bumper and fogs.

If you went to a cheap body shop and skipped the clear-bra, figure $3,200.

Amazing fire drill. When this car came out, the bumper was ridiculed extensively and now people are actually spending this much to get the new look? Unbelievable!

I don't know what to say other than while I ridiculed the E63 for doing away with the 8-pot brakes and blown V8, I always loved the "sharper" and more aggressive front end. Not to mention that the AMG designed bodywork looks way better than most of the considerably less elegant aftermarket options. The E63 front bumper with the Euroteck E63 lip is pretty tough to beat!

I don't think so. I can certainly afford an E63 but as great a car as it is, I have no interest in going there after the E55 as it is at best a step sideways.

I also have no interest in turning my car into an E63 as I like the 55 rear bumper, rear trunk panel, tail lights, and headlights better. It is only the front bumper/grill that I'm going after in my conversion.

I would also venture to say that it is no different from using SL55 intake tubes, SL65 wheels, etc, on an E55. It's nothing more than raiding the parts bin to produce a better beast.

Now if we took an E300 and did the conversion you could argue posing but if the owner isn't claiming it to be an AMG or putting AMG badges on it...why not if it makes them happy! No worse than when I owned my C32 and MB starting putting the C32 bumpers on C230 Sports to get rid of them.

Just curious, how come you aren't going with the euro impact strips instead of US ones + clear corners?

63s doesn't have separate impact strips. The bumper is one piece. Unless he can order an euro bumper without the corner lights...

WOW 3300? I'm spending half(~1100) as much to do it on a e320. Of course my car is the base model doesn't have all the extra amenties but I didn't think the prices would vary that much.

Yes, I already have an AMG badge on the rear and the Beast under the hood!

The E63 bumper has the impact strips molded into the bumper so there is no Euro impact strip. You must order the Euro bumper (from Europe) to delete the US markers so I am going with clear ones as it is far less of a PITA.

I don't know what to tell you but the E63 bumper is $1150, the mesh pieces are $500, the fogs are $400, the base model grill is $375, etc, etc. You got yourself one heck of a deal.

As for me, I am doing this for the cost of the fogs, mesh, and other misc bits as some idiot backed into my car cracking the bumper and damaging the grill (thank god there was no body damage).

If it weren't for the insurance company picking up a large portion of the bill, I wouldn't waste the money or the time. But given the circumstances, I figured that I should make something good out of a bad situation!

Haha oh sorry, I meant posing in my opinion is adding ///amg badge when you don't have the engine. You already have it and the engine so not posing at all in my books.

I didn't know about the bumper strips, clears make more sense now.

The E63 parts arrived yesterday. I got home at 10 and stayed up until 12 starting to "build" the bumper. Lots of bits but pretty straight forward. I can see where some people had troubles with gaps, etc as there are some internal parts that if not ordered and installed, would easily cause this.

The real fun will come tomorrow when I start custom fitting the E55 parktronic sensors into the E63 bumper (not for the faint of heart as it requires grinding/cutting/bonding on a new $1,200 bumper)....happy, happy, joy, joy!

I can't wait to drop it off at the body shop on Monday for a test fit on the car and then disassembly and paint!

I did something very similar to my old S430, I upgraded the entire front end Bi-xenons/AMG frnt bumper/new hood/grill/side mirrors/taillights.....

The 03' up facelifted w220 Sclass had the hood height increased by about 1.5" (if I remember correctly) also the newer 03-06 frnt bumper wouldn't accept the old hood shape etc.. I didn't even know 100% if the all the parts would fit on my 2001 S430 but wanted to update the more aggressive appearance sooo bad, I just went for it! It was the best mod I ever did to the car...

You'll fall in love all over again after you see your 63 bumper upgrade complete

Can you confirm the following part no...

How is the conversion going? Do you have a finalized parts list yet?

Based on the research i've done with my dealer, they claim that only one part number is required for the complete front end without paint, 6-6-03-6458.

Retail price for the "front apron" is $1992.00. They also have a 6-6 part number for the side skirts and rear apron which is supposed to be "complete". I would love to confirm before I order.

Anyone?

I'm still working on some of the little parts. I was told that there was no part number for a complete bumper assembly in this system and have a good dealer. With my luck, they are wrong and it is cheaper to buy it complete! I will look into that part number.

I have one part that is eluding me so there will be a post coming later.

You will need a front engine undertray as that is different.

I just checked and that part number is invalid. Any additional numbers or letters you missed?

It's 100% correct according to my invoice. I'm not sure if the dealer network is different between US and Canada but that's the part I ordered. I did notice though that the system they logged into for AMG parts was different... It looked specifically for AMG products. For the OEM parts, i.e. grill they logged into the standard system.

This is from what I saw but I'll try to confirm with them.

All of my AMG kits parts have 6-6 part numbers.
The radiator and spoiler have a 211 part number.

My order is as follows:
6-6-03-6458 FRT APRON -> NET 1593.60
6-6-03-6145 SIDE SKIRT -> NET 1182.40
6-6-03-6462 REAR APRON -> NET 1182.40
211-790-04-88-9197 SPOILER -> NET 713.60
211-880-17-83-9040 RADIATOR GRILL -> NET 346.40

TOTAL 5018.40 CAD

All prices retail less 20% (tax not incl.). I'm pretty sure the front clip is complete because BenzNL (steve) sells it complete as well. Hope this helps. And HOPE i ordered the right ****!!

Just confirmed from my mate in parts that the 6-6 part numbers are from the accessories catalog, seperate from the main system. He said that it's slightly cheaper to order the parts individually but there are some additional costs with assembling (like you're doing).

Anyway, seems like you're on the right track!
I'll post pics of my kit when it arrives!
Cheers
