What problems to the E63's have?
Considering this car for a long term vehicle.
what kind of problems are you guys running into with these cars down the road. are they reliable long term cars? don't plan to go down the modding road, already have a hobby car.
what are you finding with high miles engines, chassis, electronics? etc.
any problems these cars are notorious about?

2. Oil leak(transmission) at least my car
I put 26000 miles on my 07 E63. My car has been to the dealer a lot.
In fact, my car is at the dealer because front A/C vents problem. Warm air comes in even though A/C is off.
Brake noise was fixed but it took three visits to the dealer.
Oil leak was fixed with three visits to the dealer
I hope this helps. But I still love the car and plan on keeping for a while.
like what? head turning noise when coming to a stop?
thats *not* normal right?
thanks guys. what else. im sure there are horror stories out there. aside from the typical lemon , what else goes wrong with these cars after 2-4 years.

I have had a few issues, but dont have time to get into them all. You can search this forum and look up all posts I have put up and see what problems I have had. Car is running good now though I think I might have a weak cylinder spring at the moment. Slight rattle on initial load, but goes away above 2k rpm. After 2 visits to dealer about brakes, still have squeaking, but find if i clean my wheels every few days and spray down dics it goes away for a few days at a time. Squeak to me just means time to clean wheels

As far as the original question. My only issue was a break noise which was fixed in two visits. (Had to go back a second time b/c a part needed to be ordered.)
I've had mines for about a year now and similarly to everybody else, the only problem was the break squeak which was quickly remedied by the dealer. On a side note I may be selling this car real soon, but that's due to business related issues...

Ok... the guy who originally brought up the 55/63 thing was being shmuckish. But I'm sorry, before people buy a 63 they should know that the 55s are faster from a dig. Anyone who doesnt know any better automatically thinks the 63s are better in EVERY WAY. They are better in many ways, but not every. Many of my friends (including those with 63s) think that there cars are faster than 55s from a dig. No matter how much evidence I give them (torque, torque and more TORQUE) they wont believe it. And since I'm not a very experienced straight line racer, I've never raced them (I dont want to ruin the 55 name).
I'm not here to say that the 55 is better, it just has some qualities that the 63 doesnt.
Back to the OP... get the 63. There is nothing on this earth that couls make you as happy. You are getting a 4 door (comfortable and spacey) family saloon that can put down supercar type straight line speeds. I hope you get a 63 and I hope to see you on these forums. Good luck

E63 Updates
So far, there's been a few TSBs out for the 63 and although not all of them will apply to the car you got, it's always good to take it to the dealer for a full update....
- TSB for Cam position sensor
- TSB for Faulty Oil Dipstick
- TSB for Squeaky Brakes
- TSB for new trans valve body
- ECU/TCU Updates

I have only one major complaint: very limited opportunities to actually deploy all 507 bhp and 465 lb ft of torque on a regular basis.
Dense suburban and urban traffic along with keen law enforcement here in northern NJ and metro NY pretty much kill the fun that can be had; which leads to some frustration especially when my 2 1/2 year old daughter says "Daddy go fasht! (sic)" from the Britax behind me!
Seriously though, I think I'd reconsider getting something like an E63 AMG again as my daily driver when my lease ends in 2010, it's just such a waste of potential energy not being able to be converted into kinetic energy...for example: when parked at the train station...

LoL...thats funny. My daughter is a little yourger so she isnt speaking in full sentences yet, but when I throw her in the back seat(in the middle with a car seat) and take her out for a drive only in the e63 does she spend most of the time just saying "weeeee" like every 10 seconds and especially if I goose it off the line a little. She loves my car probably as much as i do, since thats what i say in my head when i go WOT

Like the E55, the E63 really doesn't suffer from many issues that aren't classifiable as minor annoyances for a car of this performance level. My GT3 offered similar levels of straight line performance and braking with plenty of brake squeal present and entirely normal for the Brembo calipers...no big deal for me! If you want a car that never goes to the shop, buy something less complex with far less performance.

I agree with the ability to use the power potential. However, in CA, you can definitely have fun with 0-60 when merging on the freeway during the morning commute from the traffic light.
BTW, I've had my CPO E63 for almost one year and I put on about 6k miles. I've had numerous minor (floor mat replacement, broken interior trim pieces replacement, trunk lid interfering with quarter panel, etc.) and one medium issue (engine rattle at startup resulting in a bad camshaft adjuster).

Not sure. It lasted for maybe 1 second but the sound was significant. It took acqhile for the dealer to diagnose because it was intermittent. Most of the time it occurred during a cold start. Basically, I left the car at the dealer and the shop foreman would start the car once every hour until observed. The warranty paperwork showed about $2k in parts and labor for the repair.





I too experienced the break squeal which was for the most part rectified by the TSB fixes.
