CLS armrest in E-Class?

I did a quick search on the forum and didn't see this mentioned.

Has anyone tried replacing the E-class armrest (wooden rollup) with the CLS armrest?

The W210? has a double armrest, but doesn't have the cupholders as on the CLS.

Thoughts? Something that can be retrofit? (Steve@mbenznl?)

Good idea if it works. This is one part of the E that I don't like. I find that there is no comfortable place to rest my right elbow..... especially when the roll up is open, but not much better when closed...... I like to lean to the right when I drive and rest my arm/elbow on the center armrest. Cannot really do it in the E.

It can be done on the W211 You use a Early USA or EURO W211 console
Did my 2006 W211 as I did not care for the roll type door either

Another Mod thanks to MBENZNL.com

I believe from 2003-2004, the W211 had the butterfly door center console. In 2005, MB switched to the tambour door. It should be an easy swap, just contact Steve@MBenzNL.
More info on this thread.

Here is my center console/armrest.

Armrest console

Please note that the CLS armrest is NOT the same as the one from "2003-2004, the W211 had the butterfly door center console." I believe the old 03 armrest has flimsy foldout cupholders. (would someone pls confirm?)

If you'll notice that the CLS armrest has cupholders mounted outside the double center console. (yes, I like cupholders)

Yes, funky cup holder contraption thing, but made for much better armrest.

Is it just me? I think the CLS interior looks awful.
Reminds me of the dash of the Chevrolet Impala!

Agreed on the styling of dash. Not extremely attractive, but probably limited due to E-class chassis.

Is the 03 "funky cup holder contraption thing" stable? I've read that it doesn't work well.

Also, does the 03 armrest fit the bluetooth puck? I also read that the puck is too large for compartment of 03 armrest.. Am I mistaken?

Thanks

Cupholders are a afterthought...all it takes is Once for a spill and the car is dead

Yes The Blue tooth puc fits in the Early / Euro Console I Have it in mine

I've got an 03 and the cupholder has held up well. If you do spill anything at all on it there is a tendancy for it to not flip open as it should, but keep it clean and she works fine. I don't like how you can't fit an oversize cup in it, but after coming from a Porsche I'm just happy to have a cupholder period.
