V1 hardwired to cigarrette lighter circuit and mounted high above rear view mirror. They go for $399.00 from V1 directly... If it's not the BEST, it's in the top 2 IMHO... Paid for itself over and over again on my 100 mile/day commute where I pass no less than 6 Troopers, at least 2 County Sheriffs, at least 5 CSPD Revenue Collectors all in the 4th worst Speed Trap City in the US, Colorado Springs, CO.... The V1's ability to indicate if Radar is in front or behind plus how many individual signals is key...

You're nuts driving without one.
Two choices, V-1 or the 9500 iX, the 8500 doesn't hold a candle to these!!! V-1 has no redlight cam capability BUT is a fine unit. Either one, you can't go wrong. 8500 Passport is old technology!!

Hi there,

I went to the link you provided, after talking to some of the local retailers I managed to find out from www.radarsdirect.com.au that the STINGER dsi will not protect you from radar threats up from 35.2Ghz, the stinger computer is an awesome radar detector if the radar threats in your state are under 35 Ghz as the stinger's range in the ka band is limited.

Aaron - I use a valentine one.

Transplanted my V1 into the E55 and it only took me about 30 minutes to hardwire it into the cigarette lighter circuit. Looks great up top near the rear view.

For those of you with suction cup on windshield detection.... Get a fixed detection system and you will never look back.

I have the passport SR7 in my E55 and it is truly amazing. I've named it "Larry". And there are times when Larry detects things a mile down the road.

Funny it actually took some getting used to, my previous suction style was a Passport 9500IX and it would basically just detect things as you were getting right up on them so I would POUND the brake pedal and do the "front end dive" thing...

Now, When Larry chimes in I just let off of the gas.

My car has a K40 built into the dash but I got sick of the thing constantly having issues. It was certainly nice while it worked. The V1 is a better detector anyway. It notifies me well before the K40 would.

i am not too happy with my escort 8500 x50. The mount sucks. I always get service required. The radar does pick up signals really far away when the cops are shooting radar. My previous model made by escort did this too. I did get pulled over yesterday for speeding 76 in 70mph. My escort never made a beep. I don't think he was using laser...he was inside his car with windows up. He was hiding behind bushes about a 45 degree angle from me. Either he lied about my speed or escort has problem (maybe due to service required). I was passing another vehicle when he saw me...maybe i just looked fast. However, I did get warning and I never get warnings.

I will be getting a V1 soon.

76 in a 70? Ouch. Here in Florida, you won't even get a second look from troopers unless you're going 15+ over.

May as well go the laser jammer route. I've had them all, including 4 valentines, and the 9500i, 9500ix, 8500, solo s2 etc.
That damn laser gun gets me all the time. And they use it on small streets now too. *******s lol.

You know, I got more speeding tickets WITH a radar detector than without one. I had the best Passports, Valentine 1, etc., at the time... I haven't had one for over 10 years and have only received one speeding ticket since... I've simply learned where to speed and where not to speed...

I find that the V1 only helps at night in suburbs. Never has it had helped on a highway.
Do you guys in Cali actually have cops still run radar? I'd expect states like Idaho to..

I've tried them all too. Currently I am using a Valentine 1, hardwired, with a concealed display/remote audio in my ash tray.

The V1 unit is concealed too - in my headrest. I get good detection still of radar, obviously laser is not detected because it's line of sight. Laser detection is kind of a moot point anyway with a laser jammer, you really need the combo of V1/jammer to be effective.

I really like the V1, much more than the Escorts. The arrows are really neat - and on the L mode I actually found that I get very few false alerts.

V1 has saved my butt many times. Laser still sometimes gets me - might have to look into a jammer if they start using more where I drive.

Valentine 1 here. May be annoying at times, But I will say when there is a cop you WILL know it with plenty of time before you even see him.
