E55 then E63, now back to an E55
E55 Squeaky Brakes
Ive driven the car 20,000 miles w no problems, but in the last two thousand miles the brakes are very noisy - high pitched squeaking when slowing down, or taking off slowly from light, occasional grinding, even a little noise when backing up and stopping.
My question becomes:
Isn't there a sensor that would alert light on my dash? No lights are on, and that would be the first thing I would expect....
I assume I at least need new pads, and possibly the rotors grinded down smooth again.....
Thanks!

I am having the same problem...and no sensors pop up so I'm wondering if the brakes are still good...
Odds are I'm going to have to change the pads but shouldn't it squeak all the time instead of occasionally as in my case

The sensor is dug in deep enough that it should go off long before you work through the brake pad. But, that same pad gets hard after many heat cycles. Also, the contact shape of the pad to rotor changes over time and get into a position where it chatters. Be sure to replace or true your rotors with the pads..

I had this problem w/ my CL55, quite a few more miles than you have, pads didn't change that awful squeal, I finally shelled out for a full brake service included new pads and rotors at all four corners finally stopped the sounds to the tune of $900. Considering how much I hated the nyc cab sounding brakes everytime I stopped, the $ didn't matter but obviously it was still expensive. Good luck.

My Jeep SRT8 has the same problem with the Brembo's it has on it. I changed out the pads and rotors at 15K and the still make noise. On the Jeep it is a design flaw. TThey all make the noise.

Take a flashlight and look at the pad, you will probably find that it is very thin. Most E55's chew through their front brakes in the 20-24K range so it is time and the squeal is the first sign, the next will be the wear sensors.
