It's a great DD. I put 20-25k per year on and have no complaints. It is very comfortable on long hauls as well, so long as it's only 2 of you. My wife and I took it to Key West (10hrs each way) and were very comfortable. We tried to throw our 2 young sons in for a 5hr trip and it was miserable. Hauling the kids around town is just fine and its OK with 4 guys going to lunch, but the 2 in back don't have much leg room.
As far as mileage, I drive mostly suburban with some highway and average 16-17 consistently. It will get low 20's with the cruise set at 80 on the interstate and will still get 16-18 running in the low triple digits. Average can easily drop to 10-12 if you're really on it in town.

I bought mine specifically as my daily driver and absolutely love it. I'd have to say it's my favorite car yet. I like it even more than the SL500 I previously drove. It has more room, more power (lots more), more doors doesn't look much different than the thousands of other E class cars.
Avg mileage around town is 15 and 19.5 on the hwy.

I am not the biggest fan of the seat comfort for longer trips, but who cares when you can punch it have SO MUCH FUN!!!
I also have an 03 so maybe they improved um over the years.

Mine is a little tweaked, and still the perfect family car for long journeys (helped by DVD screens in the headrests for the kids )
I love being able to change the attitude of the car with a couple of button presses - from comfy smooth kid'n'wife friendly cruiser (gear shift in C, Renntech ELM modded suspension in medium) to loony drag strip monster (gear shift in S, suspension high) to general fast road posing (gear shift in S, suspension SLAMMED)
Not great for fuel consumption, but life is too short for a Prius

You guys got me sold!
Just have to find that right combo. Looking for a 04 or newer black or white/ dark interior with Pano, keyless go, parktronic, distronic, dynamic/heated/cooled/pulse seats, nav, and xenon. Hopefully there is an inexpensive loaded E55 under 50k with warranty out there

I just got mine 22 Nov 08. That's right, last week and I love this machine. I have not driven my C5 corvette since. If it was'nt a convertible it would already be gone. Good luck on your purchase.

This car is probably the best of both worlds.. Fast yet comfortable and reliable. I have had my car for 3 years and drove it every single day(83,xxx miles) Definately worth getting into to

This car is maybe the worlds best allrounder. The car is quiet, comfortable, spacious, fast, good looking. As a daily driver I get 15.5 mpg. Highways 18 mpg. Lowest Ive ever seen: 24 mpg. What I love the most is the suspension. I drive in C mode on bumpy roads, cobblestones and in the snow, and sport 1 or 2 on the highway. The only negative thing to me has been no awd. I have got stuck in sand and snow. There is just too much torque for slippery conditions.

I didnt buy this car for the mpg. I get 14 on the highways and about 9 in a city. Its just the way I drive
As far as a daily, its great. Nothing beats getting your 63 excited in the morning. 4 People will fit OK for an hour max. After that it starts to get tight, there really isnt much room in the back and I find that everyone hits their head on the roof.

bought my 63 to use as a daily and it is perfect for it. You can waft around and it will be civil, but you can also when you have had a bad day at work step on the gas and forget about it! i would say hard to beat, esp since the e55 is such a huge amount of bang for your buck. I only have one to two passengers with me, and that is fine, but Hawaii is not exactly spread out.

The car has split personalities. Docile as can be if driving slow (one who had no idea what an E55 was would have no idea of its capabilities) and an animal under full throttle. Gas mileage is similar. Best case of 12 mpg in the city and often respectable (all things considered) 21 on the freeway at 65-70.
I totally disagree this is a good vehicle for long trips (over 2 hours). I found it uncomfortable after about 2.5 hours and my wife gave me a headache complaining about the lack of comfort, too (my wife has a predisposition to Lexus LS's so go figure...).
You will love the car!
