Stupid question....

but I have a helmet that says:

SNELL APPROVED DOT on the back...

It's a HJC CS-12. Is that alright? I know there are ALOT of different levels of classifications...does mine pass??? Thanks in advance...

Look inside the helmet you may have to peel the insulation back to see the sticker inside. It should be brown with white letters and numbers Snell 2005.

I have a DOT approved helmet but last time it apparently was not up some NHRA standard. Not sure what to buy, would appreciate it.

Ebay here you go. Mine was about $80-$100 shipped. You may luck out and find one cheaper. It's only for a day or two at the track anyways. Or borrow someones motorcycle helmet, they are all usually Snell 2005 rated.

Thanks fer the heads up...now does it have to say Snell 2005? Mine has the Snell (brown sticker) on the right side of the sticker and has a M2000 on the left...is that the same as having the "Snell 2005" ?

not to be picky but all you need is snell 2000 or newer (which obviously includes 2005).

Mikey, have you decided if you are going to make Famoso? Just curious, I'd like to line up with you.

That is a Snell 2000, but you are fine. Here are the approved helmets for all closed vehicles running 10.00 to 13.99 straight from the 2009 NHRA Rulebook
Snell M2000, M2005, K2005, SA2000, SA2005, SFI 31.1A, 31.1/2005, 31.2A, 41.1A, 41.1/2005, or 41.2A helmet with or without faceshield.

As long as you have one of these stickers inside the helmet your good. Sometimes people think because the back of the helmet has DOT on the back that it's good. It's not, unless has the sticker. The M2005 will be good for quite a few years to come. Every few years the NHRA phase out the older certifications.

I was under the impression that the 2000 ones have already been phased out

Not according to the rule book. We are not hosting an NHRA event, but most still follow these rules because their insurance policy is based off of them. Ask the track to look at page 64 of the new book. It's the same as last year. When I started racing I was told to buy a M2005 because the M2000 were getting closed to being phased out. Still good though. I'd ask the track to be sure, some let converts run below the 13.5 minimum without a roll bar, others don't. Some let the 11.5 full bodied cars run under without a roll bar, others don't. It depends how cool the tech guy is, maybe someone just bring him breakfast and call it good.

J, Call me and I can have one for you when you pick up your car, or worst case you can use one of mine for the event. I have some on the shelf. We carry HJC and Sparco.

BTW, you should correct them, I think your evosport M3 is the fastest non NOS e9x M3 in the country if not the world - not just the west coast.

Thanks
Brad
