saw a is300 blow the pants off an is-f
A buddy of mine invited me over to check out his new dark blue is-f. i get to his house and do a few runs with him on this farm road. (princeton plainsboro area).
I can say its competent, and can keep up somewhat but the e55's torque definitely wins out every time. I drove his car for a bit and i was pretty disappointed with the brakes on the car and the steering makes the car feel heavier than the E, definetly not my cup o tea especially the interior. Aside from that it definetly feels fast when you use the paddles and has a lot of power past 3000 rpm but if your looking at c63's rs4's or m3s its nothing special. After i finished driving his car i reminded him that I told him to get a c63 before he bought the lex, its just nicer and has four WORKING tailpipes.
after we played with our toys me and my bud go into his lexus to grab some food. on the way there we see a ricer is300, we get onto a clear bit of highway, (206 i think) and from 40 we go. this guy just guns it past us like we were nothing. I heard the familar tubo blow off valve ping. i found it quite funny how $4k in mods just made his 60k is-f look silly. (although this guy maybe/probally could have beat my E )
anybody have expierence tuning a 3.0 liter is engine? im assuming its the same block as the supra which is why he could boost the car to go so dam fast.
also could this work with a bigger 300 lexus? like the sc300 or gs300?

the is300 is the MKIV supra n/a motor.
less hp from exhaust and tuning maybe.
but yes, its a 2JZ motor, so you can get the turbo kit for it and it will hold some boost.
the sc300 is also the same motor. 2JZGE vs the 2JZGTE twin turbo motor
a friend of mine has a sc300, stock N/A block with big turbo kit making almost 1000 hp.

The GS, IS and SC 300s all have the same JZGE engines. You can't run insane boost on the GE without building internals but its not too hard to just take the full GTE from a japanese Aristo (GS) and drop it in any of the N/A 2JZ Lexus cars as well as the Cressida (Chaser) or any Rear wheel Toyota for that matter.

doubt it was an auto, but some have, depending on the power application.
the is300 came in a 5-speed manual also, but a lot of people either have a built auto or do the entire turbo motor swap with the twin turbo 6-speed tranny. the stock 6-speed tranny will hold 1000hp, right along with the stock twin turbo motor, with a bigger turbo of course.

Makes me miss my boosted IS300. Nothing can compare to the sound of the turbo spooling up, the wastegate opening to atmosphere and the immediate thrust... The engine is essentially the same as the 2jz-gte, but without the forged internals. I never did get a chance to dyno mine, but I was taking e46 M3's left and right on the highway and even a modded M3. All at a very low 6-7psi and on a POS Greddy E-manage. I had an auto tranny with a valve body upgrade that did give it very strong shifts under WOT. It was no doubt a blast to drive. I should have kept it around.

I have a 03 Is300 with a T67 turbo and yes i tested it and my lex beats my E like nothing
but you cannot compare and is300 with an E55 or a Is-F
the luxury of those cars are different..all i know is that my is has no luxury what so ever

Nice to see respect for the boosted 2JZ Toyota motors in an AMG forum. Good for 650+ hp right out the factory, and bulletproof Toyo reliability. Now THAT's a motor.

Did u say u beat your E500 (supercharged lorinser) with your IS300(turbo) ?? If is true then your IS300 pretty fast brothaa. May I ask how much it cost for that turbo setup ?? I plan to do that on my GS 300 I believed we have the same MOTOR .

Damn, never thought I'd see anybody talk about the 2jz here, lol. And I was just about to start something about that, haha. They are unbelievably strong, if you want to check out some insane stuff, look at what Gas Motorsports has been doing, they build a 2041 hp 3.2 2jz! CH, did you see the new world record supra that's pushing 1620 whp? Insane, boos transition is crazy smooth too.

i have respect for 2jz engines, the japanese were getting things right for a while.
supra, 3000gt, 300zx, skyline even the entry level sports cars were good (celica,240 sx)
all cars that can be boosted into insane speed demons with very little modification. however in terms of respect many of these cars were either ahead of their time or had some god awful ideas (ex. 300zx had rear steering, mad it impossible to boost the car cuz the axel was so incredibly weak)
i would consider a lexus with a 2jz as a second car but i think we can all agree theres more to the driving experience than just a insanely powerful engine.(although its good to have) I love my E55 because its comfortable and fast and bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing. the sound of 2jz blow-off valve on a turbo that big will prolly alert anyone (with knowledge of turbos) theres some serious **** under the hood.

Since this 2jz engine is so strong from the factory and when tuned, would dropping one into a Lexus GS class make for a good and/or perhaps more reliable alternative to an E55 or E63?
If Lexus is trying to make a GS-F would it make sense for them go this route? Development costs would be minimal due to existing engine/tranny/chassis technology; we all know how reliable toyota/lexus is; and Lexus seems to be pretty luxurious. Would this be the ultimate E-killer?
For me i prefer the torque low down from the AMGs, and driving around with high rpms all day for the best effect turned me off the M5s and would turn me off the boosted GS. But competition makes other automakers try harder. Rumors of a Twin-Turbo 5.5 anyone?

gs300 TT have been done lonnnnng time ago, a member of the lexus club here had one about 2 years ago before i even got my car. that thing is insanely fast and sounds sick... however i dont think this setup suits this car very well....it also did give him alot of problems eletrical and performance wise since afterall it is not a sports car like the supra or would say, an IS

Yeah I got one too (Supra) see sig, have a few things done to her. Last dyno from 2007 she laid down 670 rwhp w/ slipping tranny! My only reason for not modding the E yet, is I want to finish the Supra this year my goal is 800-900 rwhp.
