Is there anyone in a similar situation that was able to get warranty coverage at a reasonable cost? I seem to keep running into dead ends. Most either don't insure the AMG line, don't insure in California or just tell me the car is not new enough to be warrantied. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here's the advice I posted several years ago on this topic:

My advice on any (non-factory) extended warranty is this:

Ask your repair shop which extended warranty companies they accept, pay claims on time, and repair cars using quality parts. Once you have a few names of warranty companies, then search for complaints on these businesses with the BBB, and your state's Office of Consumer Affairs and Insurance Commission, if applicable.

Shop price LAST.

Good luck and please share your results with us.

Welcome to LA LA land. In CA you have to purchase the extended warranty at the time you purchase the car. If you bought it from a private party your not going to find someone to warranty it. I looked into this a couple years back. If you find that something has changed - please share with the rest of us CA boys.

Fidelity Warranty

OK guys- I spent all morning driving around looking for an extended warranty and verifying it with the MB dealership. It looks like my local chrysler dealership can sell me a full 5yr/50k warranty from TODAY for right around $3k. That is supposedly discounted off of a $4xxx retail price. I don't have the exact paper with the quotes right in front of me but do these numbers sound right? It was an exclusionary plan and pays for claims with an AMEX card.

Question is- has anyone here used them, and are they any good? I really don't mind spending the money for it but I feel like I'm somewhat being bent over since Chrysler offered me one before the new year for less than $1500 for the max care plan (exclusionary as well, from what I can remember).

Let me know if this all sounds right to those of you with experience.

Thanks!

Has anyone dealt with these guys? http://www.ascwarranty.com/asp/index.asp
I was quoted $2100 for a 3 yr/36k top of the line plan 4 on my 03 with 60k miles. I am trying to decide between them and the chrysler one.....

Were you able to actually find someone who can sell you the Chrysler ESC? I can get a 3yr/36k through Fidelity for $2315.

Looks like I was a little off on the numbers. A 5yr/60k warranty is $3512 but I can actually get a 6yr/60k warranty for $3618. I only drive the car about 5-8k/year so the 6yr is worth it if I'm going to keep it that long. 4yr/48k is $2642. I'm thinking of doing this one. I always tell myself "I'm going to keep this one for a while" and end up trading/selling sooner than I anticipated. In four years it will be 2013 and my car will be 10 years old. There's no telling what will be out then!

Price should be the last thing one should be talking about...Pay little bit more buying the warranty at your local MB dealer and have peace of mind ...or..... pay little less now and have lots of headache dealing with these companies later..( if they are still in buisness )

The car is being delivered to me tomorrow afternoon....
Careful, not all items are covered on the extended warranty (CPO). Gaskets, plastic parts, are items that come to mind. I had a fuel leak on a gasket on a gas tank fitting that was not covered because it was a "gasket" that failed. Not a big sum of money to fix ($125 iirc), but it was very frustrating. Read the fine print. A 25cent gasket cost me the $125 due to labor. Probably could have fixed it myself for the 25 cents, but that is what I thought I had the warranty for.

Exactly. Get the MB ELW warranty if your car is eligible for it. It is a full extension of the factory warranty. However, it is significantly more expensive than the CPO (which itself is only generally available when buying from a dealer).

I have a service contract from CNA. They require the car be under factory warranty and contract can only be purchased at selling dealership (when you buy an inspected car), so it is not a true aftermarket solution. The contract covers more than the MB warranty and I choose what shop to use. 5 year 50,000 mile $4500 $100 deductible. I'll be turning in my first claim next week stay tuned.

OK. So I just got a Chrysler Service Contract today for my 03 E55 with 61k miles. I got the 2 year 30k miles Maximum Care Plan for 2500$ with a 100$ per visit deductible. It covers all mechanical and all electrical even covers the air suspension and much more (it's their best plan) !!!

called chrysler contracts directly 1-800-442-2666

it is transferrable if you sell the car for a 50$ fee!!!

YES! I will pay it out over 12 months ! It is interest free. You can either do 12 equal payments or do a downpayment and then 12 payments.

I am pretty excited because it looks like they cover alot and the price is great, and they have really good feedback on the forum. My friends has used them for his S600 and S55AMG.

I have an 03 with xact same mileage (61k) and got a quote of $2425 from Chrysler and $2090 from ascwarranty for their plan 4 coverage. Sounds like these are 2 of the best deals out there. Ascwarranty has a $0 deductible and free roadside assistance too. You have to actually purchase through a dealer who sells the coverage, which I did find one here, but still sounds like a good deal. Has anyone else gone with ascwarranty.com before? http://www.ascwarranty.com/asp/customers.asp?ID=100002

I have an 04 E55 with 65K on the clock. It is covered under an MB ELW until Nov. 2009.

I just got off the phone with an MB finance guy at my local dealership and he quoted me the following:

Fidelity Platinum Coverage, 3yr/36K from date of purchase, $4,600, payable in equal monthly payments for 3 yrs, 0%APR.

What do you guys think?

a bit expensive... But here would be my concern: Say you take your car in because your airmatic went out. Mercedes knows you have used links or ELM or whatever. They will likely blame it and get out of doing the repair.

If you go with Chrysler, Mercedes doesn't give a ****, and probably won't say nothing and just tell Chrysler "yeah the airmatic failed, dunno why" and your stuff gets fixed.

No?

man i am glad i saw this thread....
purchased my 05 in 12/07 from a private party who had factory coverage through 1-22-09 and 1 year cpo til 1-22-10. i inquired at my dealer today and they said the car shows the above but that the cpo doesnt transfer on private party sales to new buyer, but the cpo is still in the system? so im stuck with no warranty after 1-22-09 yikes
i spoke to dealer and they offered me a mercury plan with no deductible for 5 years and 75,000 miles for $3,995.
i called a chrysler rep and the best they could do for a max care was $100 deductible 4 years with 60,000 miles for $3100.
anyone have any experience with Mercury?

2yr / 30,000 miles = $1,705 ($200 deductible)

true, and not true... they say it themselves that they rather have you take the car to the actual dealer if it is unrepairable or out of league for a dcj dealership... i bought a max care warranty... put half down, financed the rest... 0% interest over 12 months... not even a month after the contract was purchased, i took my vehicle to a mb dealer in sacramento for general maintenence... they found over 3k in repairs... called chrysler warranty and they approved it right away, no hassle... only downside was that the dealer would not release the car until they were paid, which took 3 days... at the end of the day, it was a very pleasant experience...

not quite... you can purchase a service contract at any time... provided your vehicle falls within the range/requirements of the service contract...

yes, i had a good experience... read my post above.... i highly recommend the max care warranty...

this depends on the dealer... my recent visit would have been voided under mb warranty as the previous owner of the vehicle had adjusted the ride characteristics via star... they just wrote on the ro that the suspension needed to be recalibrated, to avoid any hassle...

Sounds like they are quoting you retail, if not more. I just bought Fidelity Platinum Coverage 4yr/48k tonight and paid $2642 for it. 10% down, 18 months no interest. I purchased it from the local Chrysler dealer. I only have 33,800 miles on my car so I'm sure that is a rather important variable when it comes to cost. They're only covering my car just past 80k. Yours is actually being covered just over 100k miles. Even so, you should be able to get that coverage for much less than that. They are negotiable. My coverage is normally $3500+ and he discounted it immediately to $2642. Just said he didn't have time to negotiate and gave me the best deal he could. Made it a real easy transaction.

GL 450
We just bought a new 2008 GL 450 in Northern CA and are looking for extended warranty.
1. I understand from the MB dealership that the entire cost is fully refundable if you do not use the EW, for eg. selling your car before the original warranty 4yr/50,000 miles. (The refund would be prorated if you are in your 5th year/over 50,000 miles etc.) Do the same terms apply for Fidelity Platinum or Chrysler Service Contracts?
2. What would happen to Chrysler Service contracts if Chrysler ... goes bust and is no more?
3. The best quotes so far are only $500 off the "MSRP" Any better deals from local MB dealerships?
4. The local dealership also offers CNA policies - Automotive Preferred Care - New for 8 years/100,000 miles $200 deductible ($1000 less than MB 7years/100,000 miles.), and assures me they cover the same as MB policies (new MB parts etc...) Does anyone have good experience with these CNA policies
Thank you for your help.

question for those with Mercury and or Chrysler.

do you have to wait for a claims person to stop at the dealer to inspect the car before work begins?

when your car repair is done do you have to wait for the dealer to receive payment before they release the car?

assuming both were the same price for mercury platinum and chrysler max care who would you choose?

with my warranty running out on thursday i need to act in the morning.
thanks,
