do they have little contacts on the ends of them? If so you may have gotten the wrong kit.

You don't have to take the bumper off, but you do have to take the forward pan under the bumper off. Caution with the wiring on E55s the fog lamp wiring is reversed in the plug, you will need a volt/ohm meter to check the polarity. Here is a link to some work I did on my E55 lights.

hid

well tried the install and couldnt figure out how to keep the bulb secure in the housing,

it looks like the power and ground wire on the h7 kit goes into the stock balast, you have to take the halogen bulb out. the kit works, but couldnt seem to finish with all the wierd wiring and extra plastic pieces, i cant figure out how to lock the bulb in place with the pieces provided

James, could you give me a call tomorrow and help me out

thanks

lol, clear your PM Box!

If you take a pic of the HID kit I can help you out. Also I was mistaken above, although the bulb listed for the E63 is H11, it's actually an H7 bulb so you did get the correct kit.

Ok, I'm eating right now, but I'll do a little write up on a W203 Sport, which should be exactly like an E55 and will be a good guide to other cars.

Now, as for drop997stop, I have a very important question before we go any further.

Does the stock bulb look like this:

Or this:

man, you are too nice. helping out others even while you're having dinner.

I don't even know how to reach for my foglights. I think I need to remove the cover under the bumper first.

On the W204, there should be a rubber splash guard, probably held in place by a couple screws and then some plastic clips. After you get those off, I know for a fact that on the W204 it has a plastic cover over the back of the housing. You will have to drill a hole, approximately 1" in diameter to fit the wiring through. That's what the big rubber grommet is for.

Ok. That looks like the correct kit for the E55. The bulb is held in place by 3 tabs. You take out the old bulb by twisting about a 1/4 turn. I forgot which way, I think counter-clockwise. If you can't twist it one way, try the other. The back of the bulb should be L shaped, and the plug should point straight down in the secured position.

Put the HID bulb in and twist into place.

Plug the stock wiring harness into the female plug that is on the bulb side of the rubber grommet.

Plug the male power connector (oval plug with 2 wires) into the female end of the error canceler. Plug the male connector from the error canceler, into the female end of the ballast.

Once you have that done, connect the two single wires with the two wires comming out of the ballast.

hey Yacht Master, where was your writeup on the 55w HID high beam retrofit you did? The E63 has the same setup for the fog lights, a H7 bulb with a bulb holder. That's what the big confusion is.

yup, I found the way to get to the foglights. I think my bulbs are the second one from the picture. It is not the "L" shaped one.

has anyone with HIDs in their fogs experienced cracking of the fog lights? I had an HID kit in the fogs on my W210 E55 and about a month after installing, the lens cracked on both fogs. I realize HIDs actually burn cooler than halogen...but not sure how both lens cracked at different times after installing...

and for those who have them, do you use them often or just from time to time?
