Do you guys drive with your dogs in the car?

My brothers Fiance recently got a Pomeranian/Chiwowa mix, and I love the dog. She said I can barrow the dog whenever I want. I'd get my own, but I dont have enough time and it honestly wouldnt be fair to the dog. I barrowed her dog today (I have a loaner) and I had a blast. I'm guessing that more than a few of you have dogs. Do you drive with your dogs in the car? If so, what kind of dog/ how big are they? Any solutions to keeping the leather/interior clean?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have a beagle and a cocker spaniel. Once in a while I do put them in the car, but since I have a black interior I dont like doing it often. Usually I will use one of my other vehicles if I am driving them around.

somethings better left unsaid ...
Currently I don't have any but I used to have 3 and I used to take them where ever I go ... a Golden Retriever a teen German Shepherd and a Dobermann ... I never had any problems with the leather but the smell !! no body would ride with me but maybe the fact tat they were three big dogs in a very small coupe in a very hot country had something to do with it

Well.... I try not to let them ride in the 55 but if I have to, they diff will. Our dogs are a lot more important then our cars. When we travel to go see family (NY or Western NC) the dogs always go with us!!! We usually take my wife's X5 which I have bought a divider/barrier so the dogs will stay in the back... long trips we just put all the seats down cover everything with blankets and let them have free-range over the back area.

But… we have 3 English Bulldogs….

This is Dudley, the old man, he just turned 4 on the 18th….

This Dudley and his woman… she is 3 ½….

This is Boulder, Dudley and Daisy’s son, he just turned 1 yesterday…

As you can tell, they fill up the car quick… haha

For the 55, if you are considering having the dogs roll with you, I would look into one of these….

http://www.silverstaroutfitters.com/...protectors.cfm

In the long run it will save you seats from getting torn up by their nails.

What ever you do, don’t let the dog roll in the front seat, hanging out the window… My old college roommate lost a dog that way…. He had to stop quick b/c of the car in front of him and his dog flew out the front window that was rolled down about 1/3 ….

Have a Couple of Rottweilers that we take in the 210 wagon and the 211

We had K9 covers make them for both cars that cover the seats/floor/front seat backs and door panels ...They have thick padding and are waterproof

Mercedes makes a cover that is only for the rear seat but leaves the carpet/front seat backs and door panels unprotected

NO damage to the Interior and all the Hair/dander is on the covers..remove and wash in the washer

Uh, let me think about that.....NO WAY! I am a dog lover but when it comes to dog transport, I would buy a dog mobile as they pretty well trash cars over time even if you are careful.

2006 E55 2004 Audi S4 (gone and missed)
All dogs are different I have a 2 1/2 year old pug/beagle mix (about 30 lbs.) he hates to be wet and doesn't like mud, he's pretty clean as dogs go, but he does shed quite a bit. Also he's not the kind of dog that bounces around the car he just sits still in the back seat or will just go to sleep on a long trip. Usually I try to take my wife's Honda Pilot when he's with me but I've had him in my 55 and my S4 his nails don't hurt the leather and a good strong vacuum will take care of the hair.

Umm... unfortunately I have to see this nonsense every day living here in Orange County... I just didn't know the E55 crowd would be akin to the average GL driving OC housewife... this hurts...

2014 E63, Cobra replica, 68 Camaro, 66 Chevy II SS, Z4 BMW, Honda Element, Birel 125cc Shifter Kart.
We've got four English Bulldogs and no way are they riding in the 55. We have a Honda Element for just that purpose and it get's used often. Also, when our dogs ride in the car they ride in crates. Never loose in the car.

Many years ago I was taking our Boxer Dixie to the vet in my 911. She was sitting in the passenger seat when some idiot pulled out from a side street and I had to lock up the brakes. She cracked the windshield with her noggin and knocked herself out cold. I thought she was dead but she was ok with just a knot on her head. I never transport loose in the car anymore.

I have two rotties and we usually put them in the S4 Avant (with rubber cargo liner). However, as E55 Bulldog stated, the dogs come first and will occasionally ride in the Merc - but would highly recommend a cover as Mark Cummins described (one that covers all surface areas).

Cheers!

Nope, he's only been in the sedan once. He's a red nose, 90lbs. He's from the pound but end costing me more than most considering I bought the truck just so I could cart him around the country with me. He has tiny beige hairs and sheds all over. Him + a black leather interior is not an option.

I guess this question is tied in to your one about the wagon. Certainly the E55 wagons are great cars. ML63 or even G55 (since you're a diehard Kompressor fan) would work but they are a lot less subtle than a sedan or wagon. If you have the space for a second car then consider that. A truck allows you to go mud plugging and park in areas you just wouldn't in your AMG. One flaw with this plan is trucks suck you in- I'm about to trade the Yota in for a GMC 2500HD and have already bought some mods for it.

Cars like ours could well be soon extinct so, unless you lease (which I don't think you do), I'd say keep your super sedan as clean as you can.

SpeedPeddler- That picture is absolutely sweet. I want to pair my guy, Toro, up with another rescue but he's too aggressive with other dogs so I'm stuck with just him. As regards Dixie, dogs sure have hard heads. Glad she was okay.

2006 E55 Wagon (RIP), 2019 E63S Wagon (Sold) 2023 AMG GT634S
The dogs are the reason behind the wagon. They are getting better about understanding how to lean into the corners, etc.

I have the tray for the beck, covered by a blanket and the integrated screen keeps them in the correct area. they do not ride in the seats.

If it's nasty out, or they've been at the kennel - they ride in the back load floor of the truck (back seats folds out of way and a load floor folds out - they are still in the cab)

It's a car - you can clean it. My detail guy vacuums their hair. I've had dogs in all my cars and they are still way above average when I get rid of them. It all depends on how well you take are of your vehicle.... and kids can do just as much damage - esp when people let them eat in the car.....

A car is just a car...gets replaced every few years regardless of the logo on it.

Our dog, now down to one after losing one to illness last summer, is a member of our family so travels in whatever car we happen to travel in.

The important thing to be aware of is restraining them inside the car because if ever involved in a collision, they become projectiles inside the car and can damage themselves or others tragically. If on a long distance trip, we put her on the floor in her bed or restrained in a harness to the seat belt receptacle if on a seat.
