E55 then E63, now back to an E55
Need Serious Answer.... RE: 2007 Pricing

I am about ready to pull the trigger on one of a few 2007 E63s for around 50k.....
My question becomes- with the new model coming out relatively soon, how much are the 2007s (ONLY) predicted to drop?
When-about will this loss of value occur?
Also, how much will this cause my 55 to drop (selling to a friend)?
I assume that as the E63 I'm buying becomes cheaper (maybe 40k when new model hits floors??) .... that my current E55 will be worth less, I will be forced to sell for less, and any change will negate itself, since we are talking about (basically) the same car....
Now if I currently had a car that held value better and was not an AMG or Mercedes at all, maybe it would be more beneficial to wait for new body style and save more coin.....
But it doesn't matter I love my AMGs so much and you only live once!!
Honest opinions please - What would you guys do??

I wouldn't even hesitate on buying the 07.
With all the new tech that's going into the 212, i'd wait at least a year or 2 into the model before buying the new one. Let MB get the kinks worked out.

The 07 E is one of the most reliable cars MB has put out in a long time.

I'm still not sold on the new body E...it's gonna take me some time, but eventually, it will grow on all of us.

I would say that the 07 E63 price will soften even more in about 6-12 months after the new E63 comes out because the initial demand for the new model will lessen. By that time the car will be out of factory warranty and you can pick them up easily in the high 30k range. Your E55 has already taken a huge hit and will not depreciate as fast as a E63, I say wait till the end of this year and pick up an 07 E63. That's my plan, never own the latest and greatest, if you are one step behind you will save a fortune.

Agreed with all responses so far.

How much mileage does the 07 have? Also, does it have CPO warranty?

There are a few E55s that are already selling from mid to high 30s and a couple of them actually sold for high 20s two months back (78k miles). I doubt they will drop any more than that.... maybe they'll dip into mid 20s with very high mileage, but I think they already took most of the depreciation hit. the E63 on the other hand still has lots of depreciation ahead. Right now their selling from mid to high 50s but by the end of this year (in this current economy), I expect very low 40s, and eventually it'll depreciate as much as the E55 depreciated maybe by the end of the following year, and so forth. Don't you just love AMGs but then again, depreciation is not really all bad..... it can be a very good one when you're buying one

You think the Naturally Aspirated motor, w less actual moving parts, but high compression/lightweight pistons/cams/valves/etc generally having more stress on them (theoretically also more wear) more often, even in "normal driving conditions" ---

is more reliable in the long run, possibly less expensive to repair, and less things to go wrong than a.......

supercharged 55k motor, which typically doesn't see as much stress on a constant basis on block's internals, but definitely has more moving/working parts to go wrong (supercharger itself, heat exchanger, pump, etc) ???

Or is it too early to tell, being as the 63s don't have that much mileage yet?
If a 55 supercharger failed out of warranty, that would be a very costly repair....
I know AMG knows their stuff well and develops extensively-- but by the same token, if a 63 throws a rod because of high compression out of warranty, that would be costly as well......
Thanks!

You post some very good questions my friend....good food for thought!

I was looking at e63 pricing and it seems it's still hovering in the mid 50's and for my budget that's a bit more than I want to pay.

however given that you are stuck with a e55, unless you have another car to drive, I would sell the e55 first since as you pointed out the longer you hold onto that car, the harder it will be to sell and values will drop for sure.

Just remember cash is king and it's aways easier to buy than sell. If the purchase of one is not dependent on the other then keep the e55, otherwise sell it NOW. Otherwise when a nice e63 comes around you can't pull the trigger so you're going to miss out anyways.

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but I was wondering how much should an 07 E63 with 4x,xxx miles on it would be it bought from a private seller?

Should I ask the seller to purchase an extended warranty before I buy?

What things should I look for in a ~3 year old E63?

What would my opening offer be?

I would definitely try to get warranty, but better yet.... find one that has 20k miles. Now that the new body design is out, the current E63s are dropping like crazy. You may be able to find even a 2008 within a close price range.

I bought a flawless '07 with 35K miles, CPO 2 months ago for $48K and couldn't be happier. A local car too. I don't think waiting 'till year end will effect price. If you find the right car at the right price, jump on it.

Gentlemen, if I might add something into this discussion. I just bought an 07 E63 Designo Edition from American Service Center in Arlington, VA. This AMG had 12,600 on the odometer, and I picked this jewel up for $58,400, talked them down from $61,000. In my opinion, you should wait, the prices will eventually drop. But in my case, this is the right opportunity, with the low mileage this is pratically in all intensive purposes a new car. But it's your choice, mercedes makes great cars, and AMG makes outstanding engines. And you only live once, you could be dead tomorrow (God forbid) and not ever know the pleasure of haven driven or owned an E63 AMG. but hey, it's up to you!
