Quick question to those of you with Renntech Lowering Modules...

Looking to pick up a Renntech lowering module and have a guy that I may be picking up one up from used, he used it on e550 and the part number is 32-221-0098 but when I look up the e55 amg on the renntech website it says the part number is 32-221-0099, is the 0098 unit just an older model or will it not work?

Yes older model, you will need to cut and solider that version of the elm in.

the new version 2 is the 99 part number, which is a plug and play style elm, still a bit of work, however no cutting is required.

so does the new one allow you to remove it without any evidence of it ever being installed, if for instance, hypothetically, you had to take your car in for warranty repair (say for instance for an airmatic failure)???

In theory, yes. The only invasive aspect of the installation of the Renntech ELM v2 is that you use crimp on connectors for the power supply + and - hook-ups. But if you're removing the unit completely, you could easily remove those as well, and only a sharp-eyed tech inspecting the two power cables would ever know the ELM unit had been installed. Check the DIY stickies post at the top of E55 forum for my write-up of when I installed a ELM v2 in my car. You'll see why the version 2 is a big improvement over the version 1.

The other aspect is that I've yet to read of anyone having their car's airmatic control unit fail. The airmatic shocks or pump, yes, but not the control unit itself. So if you have a non-control unit related airmatic failure, you can turn off the ELM, and a tech doing a Star Diagnostic readout on the airmatic system would never know it's there. And unless the failure is somehow linked to an issue with the control unit, it's very unlikely they're going to disassemble the passenger side footwell and peak at the control unit. But if your completely paranoid about it, again, the answer is yes, you can completely remove it and there will not be a single wire in the factory harness that was cut as a result of install the Renntech ELM v2 - which is definitely NOT the case for the 1st generation ELM.

Just make sure you don't break any of the clips on the wires!

Seems like a pretty reasonable price as long as enough of the wire leads remain so you can install it without having to do a lot of soldering of wire extensions. RennTech has the installation instructions available at their website.

Alright thanks for the heads up, I'm pretty handy with a soldering gun and heat shrink wrap and I was planning on extending the wires anyways so I could put the unit under the cupholders for easy adjustments and stealthy hiding place. So I might have to pick this thing up.
