Flight to Quality

I stumbled across a guy selling a flawless used staggered set of 19" BBS RS-GT's in the diamond black finish. Couldn't pass up the deal on these beauties, and installed them on the car today after getting the correct tires mounted (more to come on that process . . .)

The weight saving from the two-piece 19" AMG wheels the BBS rims wheels replaced is staggering. The front wheel/tire assembly saves 11.6 lbs. per corner, and the rear weight reduction was shocking 16.2 lbs. per corner. I'm thinking these wheels are keepers.

am curious...do a dyno with your stock wheels and these on and see the difference...i know it will cost you tow dyno runns but. It will give you and all of us a better understanding of how wheels effect whp
i covnerted them and you are saving 5kg on the fronts and 7 on the rears...does not sound like a huge amount to be hoonest, but then i do not knwo mcuh on how the numebers effect the power to the wheels

When you combine the weight savings of the Brembo GT brake conversion and the forged BBS wheels, you get a combined weight savings of 26.6 lbs. for each of the front corners, and 23.2 lbs. at each of the rear corners. That's a frickin' huge reduction of just under 100 lbs. total in unsprung weight and is very noticeable in improving the car's handling. I don't know the math, but knocking off 100 lbs. also improves the car's HP to weight ratio. I haven't dyno'ed the car for these mods and likely won't, but I will say that seat-of-the-pants, it's definitely feeling more responsive and nimble (nimble being a relative term when used to describe an E55 ).

That is a pretty drastic reduction in unsprung weight. I bet the car feels "like new" only better lol.

not to highjack this thread but I'm sure BBS didn't become BBS overnight. they had to start from scratch just like 360 forged. for the record 360 forged backs up all of their products. In all fairness both companies are great.

KOMP55 - very nice shoes, congrats.

WHAAAAAAT ???? Dude - BBS didn't get where they are by making customers wait over a year for parts, posting videos of their cars broken down out of gas blocking traffic and boasting about their wealth with watches, 100 $ bills and F-car keys....
BBS got where they are by making a good product and being humble about it. You should really rethink that statement...
Oh yeah....and BBS happens to supply wheels to some of the best racing teams in the world

My experience with BBS last week is indicative of their great service. When my new "used" rims arrived, they were mounted with tires that wouldn't fit my car, were missing the PFS hubcentric centering rings, and didn't have the correct metal valve stems installed. I called BBS directly to check on parts. Everything I needed was available, and they were ready to ship the parts out. I inquired about overnight UPS service since I wanted to mount the tires over the weekend. Then the gentleman I spoke with said "If you want, you can just drive up and pick them up." Since BBS' North American headquarters is only about an hour north of the ATL, it was an easy decision. Drove up, met my contact, got my miscellaneous parts to restore the rims to "as new" and was offered gratis a current full-line BBS catalog as I was leaving. Truly first class all the way, as are their rims. I've owned other BBS rims in the past and have had nothing but positive experiences with both the wheels and with the few occasions I've dealt with BBS directly. First class company, first class products.

At the risk of turning this post into my personal lovefest for BBS, I think one could easily paraphrase the old Mercedes commericial - "engineered like no other car in the world" - and say the same about the forged BBS wheels manufactured in Japan such as the RS-GTs - "engineered like no other wheels in the world."

Yes, you will see an increase in HP on a dyno. There is a post here somewhere - C63 forum, I think, with dyno runs stock vs. a lighter wheel/tire. (sorry - I'm too lazy to look for it.) I don't remember the exact figures, but it was surprisingly high.

Losing 100 lbs. of rotating mass is huge on the road -- the engine not only has to move that weight down the road, it also has to spin it. And the brakes have to stop that mass from moving down the road while also stopping its rotation. So the car will accelerate faster and stop shorter (although tire grip is typically the limiting factor in reducing stopping distances).

LZH - I haven't been following the 360threads, and just had a chance to catch up since I wasn't sure what you were referring to (broken down cars, etc...). this is all new to me.

Beautiful rims! I was thinking of these before going with the Brabus wheels. I got a good deal on the Brabus wheels so went with them (used for 2 months and perfect wheels. Paid $2600 shipped for the rims only).
