Filters - Can you tell the difference
I am going to pick up a set of green panel filters.
Now can you tell the difference with the filter, in terms of sound and butt hp.
Thanks

say filters add 5-10hp (probably not) but jsut for arguement sake
you have a 500hp car - do you honestly think you would tell the difference if it became a 510hp car
i put in k&n filters when i bought my car and my stock ones were filthy, throtte response seemed better - but it may have just "seemed" that way.
i think air filters should be maintained well and if you are going to change them why not use better ones - but as far as gains go......can't feel them much

While there might be a gain in effective HP- it wont be felt with the amount of stock HP that these cars already carry. Its a just a cheap add on when you are trying to maximize every bit of your engines capabilities.

The actual problem though was that for lack of a better word, the filter surrounds were "melting" and the filter was dropping into the airbox & allowing anything/everything to bypass the filter & go straight to the throttle body. Doing a search on green filters should produce some pics to show it.
I guess to sum it up, make sure they are new production filters.

Andy0331 is dead on. The first series of green filters apparently had too soft of a rim and it would eventually give and the filter would get sucked out of the way. Green (or whatever the company is) acknowledged it and said they had fixed it. Still, a number of them failed just after that. My assumption was that:
1 - I did not think that they reacted quickly enough, attempting to have the problem go away.
2 - I think that even once noted, they continued to mix or use the "bad" raw materials until their stock had finished and then they changed formulations.
From what i have seen of late, there have not been any more issues, but I have stayed away from them because I did not like how it was handled.
Why VRP would use them when K&Ns are available, I do not know. Maybe that is why they are free (well, sort of)?

I installed some K&N's a few weeks ago and felt and heard no difference whatsover. But they cost just a little more than stock filters, so getting aftermarkets that can be cleaned and re-used is a good thing.
