Help With E55 Decision

Hey guys I am from the C32 section. I have a chance to pick up a one owner 2004 E55 with 11K for around $27K. The car has never been in an accident or been re painted in anyway. This guy just has to many cars and does not drive all them enough. he said he would provide all service records from the Benz dealer on the E55.

Where my issue comes up is the warranty. He said that expired in 2007. He did not purchase an extended warranty for the car. Now where my problem has come into play is it is very hard to find an extended warranty or if you do it is like $4k for these type of cars that are out of factory warranty.

Since I am not the best with a wrench and would have to probally bring it to a Indy shop for repairs that kind of scares me dollar wise.

Would you pass on the car and find one with an extended warranty? I am pulled to this one because of the price, 1 owner and the miles.

I know one of the most common problems is the IC pump which I could probally do myself with directions.

Your thoughts please

extended warranty is a must IMO...
even after u pay for ext warranty, it's still a good deal considering only 11k miles...

ya the deal is great it is just the warranty thing. It is hard to find a place that will do it out of factory warranty and if they do they charge an arm and leg

Try looking into this one: http://www.chrysler.com/en/service_contracts/.

I heard their price is reasonable and many dealers honor it.

That is GREAT buy imo, the ones I've generally seen at that price point usually have 50,000+ miles.

I second that emotion. For 11 thousand miles for $27k is a pretty damn good deal. If you're not handy with a wrench then obviously you have no choice but to get an extended warranty. There have been a few extended warranty threads with decent info that can be found pretty easy in the search function, but they all fall short of actually naming "the best" warranty company. Good luck with your search and report back here what you find and/or get, so hopefully future owners can benefit from it.

That's a great deal if it's as described. Do a PPI if you can, that might get the price even lower if any issues found. I've seen 03's with many more miles going for more.

Even if the car had zero options that's still an amazing deal.

Hey bud4ya, how is it going? Did you sell your c32 yet? That E55 is a great deal..... just make sure you verify that the car has not been into accidents independently. Don't just rely on carfax or other internet reports. Take the car to a body shop, and pay someone to look at the paint with more detail and check out various body structure parts for any previous "repaired" damage. Then take it to a dealership for full engine inspection. This may cost you a couple of hundred dollars, but may save you thousands down the road. If everything checks out, then this is a super great deal. Right now, E55s are selling for mid 30s in the auction with an average of 28k miles, which means mid 40s retail. An E55 for 27k is an absolutely awesome deal; go for it...... trust me, you won't regret it especially when you are behind the wheel

Will I have just been looking at the M5 until I ran accross this guy. I was looking at the M5's because of the 6 speed and they can be had for mid low 20's with 40K miles. The E55's for mid to high 20's have 60k +miles.

But when I got in contact with this guy I said wow this is a great deal. So we will see how it plays out. I have become part of that thread for ext warranty and will make some calls today.

Hope all is well

Hey what is going on I hope you are well. I did sell the C32 to someone that I had join the board. He just could not believe the cond of my car and bought it. I have looked at many cars most being E39 M5's and some people exc cond is way off from mine. I just told myself I will keep looking to find what I want.

Then I got in contact with this guy who owns the E55. He said I give you my word this car has never seen a body shop. He said if he goes through with selling it then he has no problems with me having it checked out. It has around 12K miles. I ran a car fax and he has brought it in each year for all systems fluid flush even if the car was driven a couple miles that year. I guess he also has a Porsche or 2 for sale. He said all these cars in heated garage with covers and battery tenders.

I found the post with the warranties and will make a call to Mercury and Chrysler today and see what the quote me.

I love power as much as you so I hope this works. I just have to get him to sell it for the price we discussed and get a warranty.

Thanks for everyones input. You have convinced me this is a great deal. That is why I gave up on teh E55's because the ones I saw for that price had 60k + miles. Now hearing about this guy through a friend was god sent. Now just waiting to hear what he decides to let go from the stable. It would be nice to take that old E55 off his hands

+1 please make sure you get it checked out thoroughly.... I've seen too many unfortunate "incidents" in the past.

I definetly will get it checked out. My last BMW was a one owner and the guy seemed on the up and up and swore to me no paint work. I just looked at the guys house and other cars and took his word for it. I learned the hard way never again. I had even run a car fax on it which came up clean. Come to find out the whole front end had been re painted.

So I am just waiting for this guy to say the E55 is definetly going. I have been checking my mail every hour

I will let you guys know what happens.

Here is the closest '04 comp I could find, in terms of miles:

02/11/09 MINNEAP Lease $28,700 19,375 Above BLACK 8G A Yes

If you don't buy this car, let me know, because I will.

Well I am not the happiest person today. I recieved an e-mail from the guy with the E55 and he said it was sold. I was like sold, what do you mean we spoke about a certain price. He said someone came along with cash and paid more. I told him I wish he would of let me know as I would of gone a couple grand more. We had just thrown out that number and it seemed to work for both. Then I did not hear from him for days and then got the e-mail saying someone paid more. Oh well I guess the car search will continue. I am trying to get out of him what it sold for so we will see if he responds.

Thanks for everyones help.

You knew the owner, his lifesyle, knew he took care of his cars and above all the car was mint with hard to beat asking price ....Why you didn't jump on it,
You will find your car but probably not in that condition and that close to home...
Good Luck
