Would an E63 instrument cluster work in an E500?
Specifically can a used '07 E63 instrument cluster be made to work in a 2004 E500?

I'm pretty sure it is possible. However, MBenzNL is best to answer this question. You can PM him here or e-mail him on his website MBenzNL.com. By the way, he has fit E63 instrument cluster on many E55s, so I don't see why not.

There are configuration options in DAS for instrument clusters.

In theory it would be possible.

He said only a new cluster at $750 would work and for some reason a used one couldn't be programmed to work in another car.

bone stock E55 AMG
for W203, odometer cannot exceed 10k miles for programming....
on W211, i'm not 100% sure... there must be a reason why steve chose CLS63 IC over E63 cluster for retrofit on E55, E500, E350, E320...
just go safe and get brand new IC from MBenzNL...

I was just wondering if a $100 used cluster would work. for a new one at $750, I can live without it.

yes there is...I bought a batch of 40 new US spec CLS63 ICs from mercedes...it is the same IC as in an E63 except for the housing
