As to the windshield, you may as well go to the dealer. In most states, your insurance carrier is required to replace your windshield under your liability coverage (believe it or not) without raising your rates, so you may as well opt for the real Mercedes glass since you're not paying for it anyway.
I know in FL we basically can get one every 12 months, if it's not "repairable". FYI, almost every crack I've had has been non-repairable. Apparently the repair can't be in the driver's line of sight.

Another thing to consider is the complexity of the job. My windshield currently has a large rock chip in it, so I looked at the WIS to see what's involved in replacing the glass. It's far more than a typical cut out the old windshield, clean, replace seals and glass job because of the electronics mounted under the glass at the roofline. These include the rain sensor and the light sensor and there is a fair amount in interior disassembly required to prepare the glass for removal - and it's not stuff I'd trust an aftermarket windshield guy with.
When the rest of the grit-blasting on my windshield gets bad enough (and it's close now), I will definitely lay responsibility for the windshield replacement on my MB dealer using original MB glass.

How do I figure out if my state is eligible under the liability insurance policy?
KOMP-

What is the significance of 1-20-13 ?

wow! never thought about that! I thought the stickers were laminated inside the glass for some reason. Just checked it now and it is only a darn sticker! Thanks for the info!
I have a W211 and a local windshield replacement company would like to charge $433 + tax on a PPG glass. But with the factory mercedes glass (only difference is the decal on the side) they want to charge $800!!!! That is insane! FYI, PPG is the kind of glass you have on your mercedes originally... I'll schedule for an appointment, get the PPG windshield and I'll just buy the $4.00 sticker on ebay and put it on myself!
Many thanks for the info! Saved me $$$$$$

You don't have to bother with eBay.
Go to your local dealer's part department, ask them for the window sticker, they will gladly hand you one for $1.50.
I saw the new GLK had really cool ones, they were see-through clear with white G. DAIMLER signature on them.
Can some one take a look at their sticker and tell me the part number?

I got a huge impact on my drivers side a few weeks ago. I had $500 deductible, so I quickly changed it to $100, and Im waiting a bit to get it replaced.

Got the windshield replaced today....
It seems no one listened to me-
Like everything in life, there is another problem.....
I specifically requested a certain sticker, white background w bold MERCEDES writing (same as on my E63 and my previous E55)....
Of course I get in the freakin car and the first thing I notice is a CLEAR sticker (around the letters, not full rectangle) w Daimler signature.....
Called the local dealer (he had the sticker I wanted in hand 2 weeks ago) and now he says they are unavailable ----- checked ebay, not the correct one, searched extensively for one hour on google, nothing yet..... frustrating !

Im not so sure about that,, I know with my Porsche when the Windshield cracked, I went to a few places, and it was explained to me that
the reason the Porsche windshields at the time were so expensive was that they had a special safety film laminated the glass that when in an accident, made sure the saftey glass stayed in place and stuck to it, and did not shower tiny fragments inside the cabin toward your face,, like so many regular saftey glass did , essentially it was laminated from the factory
I think porsche and mercedes used to use the same safety glass,,
Sekurt (SEK) which aheres to Germany TUV standards which are alot tougher than US ones.
that was like 10 years ago, but,,I think 3M also used to do something similiar and GM used it for a while, I know on some of the test cars I drove
but they discontinued it I think because of cost. Dupont made it as well, and still does I believe
Dupont glass

I think now you can get special plastic laminates that go on the inside you add to the glass that will also do this, for probably cheaper..
some tint companies sell them they are alot thicker than tint
about 3mm
besides the tires the windshield is the most important safety feature,, and injures more accident victims than anything so you may want to get some good glass
