2004 E55 exterior color?

Okay, I know this question pops up over and over again, year after year, for every model MB, but I figured I'd be the one to start a thread this time...

What color looks best on the W211 E55?

040 Black
185 Malarite Black
199 Black Opal
197 Obsidian Black
353 Teal Blue
359 Capri Blue
557 Bordeaux Red
593 Desert Silver
723 Pewter Silver
744 Brilliant silver
753 Tectite Grey
816 Everest Green
904 Midnight Blue
941 Wedgewood Blue
950 Alabaster White

I am thinking black or brilliant silver. Classic colors with the best resale value. However, black opal might not be bad either. I can't don't know what many of these colors look like, and the brochures never really help me.

As a disclaimer, I got the above list from the NetStar fax someone posted here, and I couldn't quite read some of the color codes, so obviously don't use these for ordering!

Color - Thanks

To all on this forum,

I have been reading the forum for the latest 16 months after I placed my E55 deposit. The people on here are so much nicer and mature than the other auto forums. I have appreciated all the information I have read on the new E55 and look forward to getting it as soon as it is out.

As for the color issue, I have been going back and forth for the last 6 months. Here is my top colors in the preference order.

1. Black Opal ( Have not seen it in person on a W211)
2. Silver
3. Pewter
4. Platnium Blue ( I love, but none of my friends or family member will back me up on this color).

Do they offer almadine black on the E? The vaguely red black color? I would go with that for an E55 if I got the chance.

AMGB, welcome to the club and thanks for the kind words. This board is top flight and all the members are pretty cool.

I am curious to what the new Melanite Black (185) looks like in person. What is the black mixed with - what is the actual color?

I like the Capri blue (359):

My least favorite color is Wedgewood "Teal" Blue (941)

I was just at the Houston auto show this weekend. They had a Black Opal E500. It looked great. I also like the Platinum Blue which is in the E series Brochure, but I think some derivative of Black or Silver would be best for the E55. I am leaning towards Black Opal with Charcoal seats. I am hoping that they won't charge anything additional for the Black OpaL, given where final pricing may be.

I love black, since it looks great... for about 10 minutes after you wash the car. For me, Tectite Grey is perfect, because it is still dark, is uncommon, and looks great even weeks after a wash. The metallic charcoal look really hides the dust well.

Ordinarily I would go with silver over black because of the dirt issue, but for some reason the W211 doesn't seem to have the same presence in silver. Has anyone else noticed this?

hard choice

I've been going back and forth between black, silver , and Capri Blue. I went to my dealer today after finally deciding on 040 black. On the dealer floor was an S430 with sport package that looked stunning in Capri Blue. I examined a black opal E320 and several other colors. I walked away after placing my order for a capri blue W211 E55. In twilight the car looks black, but in the sun it's a deep blue. I'm in love!!!!!!!

I agree. The W211 seems a little bland to me in the lighter colors, I prefer darker ones on this model. There was this Jade Black (don't know the real MB name) shown on an E55 from the Australian Motor show pics, I love it. Looks black, but with a dark emerald green color under bright light.

Black Opal

Can anybody tell me if Black Opal on the w211 looks more like the black opal on the old CLK or does it look more like the black opal on the ML? At the dealership closest to me, all they have is black opal on the ML. In my opinion, it looks just so so. But when I see the black opal on the CLK convertibles, it looks awsome. Went to 2 other dealerships, and nobody has a black opal in the w211 in So Cal area.

BLACK PAINT IS ALWAYS NUMBER 1!

My favorite color on any car is BLACK. But here with acid rain etching it ruins the finish and with silver it does not show. Black is very time consuming to clean and requires more waxing and maintance.

To me the Black Opal color is a mixture of black/green/blue. The sun and different lighting changes the color.

i've always had an affinity for white cars, so alabaster white is the choice. however, if royal indigo were available i'd jump all over it. amethyst, too.

i noticed in your original post you listed colour option 353 as Teal Blue. i just received the '03 211 brochure today and it lists 353 as Platinum Blue. not sure if these are the same colour with different names, but regardless, i had no clue what it looked like. luckily, the car on the front of the brochure is in Plat Blue. here's a pic for anyone else who isn't familiar with Plat Blue.
