A bargain of a lifetime if it were true.

No wonder they don't want to sell them anymore.
That's exactly how they were (are?) structured. Last year, pricing was identical for the 4 yr, unlimited mileage policy or the 5 yr, 70,000 mile policy. Those dates and mileages are from inception of the service contract, not the vehicle history.

I think it depends whether or not you're still under factory warranty. I was when I bought mine and my 7/100 is from the original in-service date.

I was under the MB CPO warranty (not same as factory, mind you) when I bought my CSC and mine is for 5/70 from date of purchase of the CSC...FWIW.

This doesn't make sense to me. Then what you both are implying is that it's stupid to buy the extended warranty while the car is still under factory warranty

Then why do people buy ELWs while still in factory warranty? If the warranty starts from contract date rather than in-service date, then you should always wait until the car goes out of warranty. I get 4/50 from the factory and then after it's out of warranty, I go and buy an "extended" and get a whole new 5 years and another 70k added on to my current mileage.

If this is the case, why is it called an "extended warranty?" It sounds like it's a whole new warranty?

Something doesn't sound right.

Or maybe I'm just brain dead.

^There definitely are some conflicting accounts here, but maybe I can clear at least one thing up. The Chrysler "warranty" is not a "warranty" or an "extended warranty." People here call it a warranty all the time, but is a service contract (CSC, is what its called around here).

But yeah, otherwise I'm as confused as you w/r/t the conflicting stories/experiences here. From what I've heard over the past year, chrysler was first offering CSCs for any car, regardless of current warranty status or year, but you had to be under 80k miles. Then they added the restriction that you had to be currently under some sort of warranty (whether factory, extended, whatever). Then they added that it had to a be 2005 and newer model year (IIRC). Now I don't know what the hell is going on

I'm not implying that at all... since I didn't mention anything about the factory warranty coverage and how it impacts a CSC. I don't know what the concession(s) is/are when you purchase a CSC under factory warranty, but there must be something - maybe the CSC doesn't start until the date/mileage the factory warranty expires, IDK.

Haha, agreed. I don't know the current status of CSC's being offered for MB/AMG; way too many conflicting reports. I tend to believe MB Forever's post, because it seems he looked into it (and is a reliable source around here, no offense to anyone else). That said, a lot of people were calling a third-party independent broker who sells service contracts, and using that as gospel that CSC did/did not offer these - which IMO is a flawed approach. Someone else would call CSC directly and hear "yeah, you can get one, but the price has gone up dramatically" ...so, who knows what's going on.

What I can confirm is this (and only this, as I have no reason to investigate further myself - just following this stuff for curiosity): a year ago, when I got my CSC, they required any vehicle out of factory warranty to get a dealer inspection prior to securing a CSC. That was a fairly recent change at the time, and before that they'd give one out to anyone. The 4/unlimited or 5/70k were the same cost, ~$3,800ish at the time. That coverage was from the inception of the CSC and had nothing to do with the vehicle's original age/mileage - but they required (IIRC) that it be within certain parameters for age and mileage (e.g. newer than '02 and under 60k miles or something like that). I've had the 4/unlimited contract since then, and the policy clearly states those provisions (i.e. no mileage restriction and coverage until ~7/2013). I've had to use it a couple times, too, and my SA commented that CSC was very easy to deal with and paid promptly. If you can still get them (and I realize it's a big "if"), I would still highly recommend a CSC.

whelp, that would definitely change my plan of purchasing an e55 wagon this weekend.

any updates guys? I'm in the market for a 03-05 CL and I am hesitant to pull the trigger unless I can secure an aftermarket extended warranty.

Depending our your mileage, just call up all the Chrysler dealers around you. I've mentioned it in another warranty thread, they still do offer the warranty but it's more expensive now. I got mines back in mid July when I picked up my new baby ('05 E55). CSC directly quoted me around 4600 I believe but my local dealer gave it to me for 4185 and I bought it in a heartbeat. Even at 4600 I would have probably bought it eventually. 5 years of peace of mind is quite worth it to me. Goodluck!

The thing is I don't want to buy a 2003-2005 CL and then not be able to secure the warranty for it. I need to know that its possible. Also are there any mileage requirements?

I was just quoted the following numbers from a Chrysler dealer in my area

4825 3yr/unlimited
5625 5yr/75k miles
4200 2yr/unlimited

anyone have any thoughts on which would be the best for an 03 CL600 with 60k+ miles on it?

I have a Chrysler warranty and love it.

By far the best warranty money can buy. It's just as good as the original bumper to bumper. They cover everything!

Just to clarify, I gave the guy the VIN number of a 03 CL600 I was interested in buying and these were the quotes he gave me.

Will this actually go through? I'm trying to decide between the 3yr and the 5yr. He originally quoted me 5800 on the 3yr and immediately dropped it to 4825 when I began negotiating.

Also, no inspection required. We can do the contract over the phone.
A different dealer told me that when they go to input the contract into the computer as a sale, the computer won't let the sale go through. I am dreading this possibility and I am wondering if he was BS'ing me.

Make sure the warranty covers the ABC suspension. I was reading recently they changed the coverage and it may not be covered anymore.

You need an inspection. If not, they will reject the claim on the basis that it was a pre-existing problem.

How do I go about getting an inspection? When I go test drive the car should I ask the dealer to get it inspected? Do I have to do it personally? What kind of inspection is required?

I asked if the ABC suspension was covered and he said the "full suspension" was covered but did not specifically state ABC

What are your thoughts on the price quotes?

I think it just needs to pass a safety inspection.

2006 CLS55 AMG
i've been trying to research this subject but there is so much misinformation out there. i just bought an 06 cls55 amg with 33k miles on it. i am the second owner and the car is past factory warranty. i rec'd quotes from nation, zurich, and easycare. i left messages for michael case and have tried to call him several times but have yet to connect. i entered my vin on the chrysler site and it says no coverage is available for my car. i've yet to find 4-yr coverage for under 5k. any suggestions? if i can't get a csc policy, what's the next best option. thanks!!

I just got off the phone with Todd for a 5 year 70k Maxcare plan they want $5750.00. They also now require a company they sublet out come to your house and do a full inspection. You can no longer have the car brought to MB. What are your thoughts on this guys??

What kind of car is this for?

I got a 3 yr 75k extension from MB for almost $2k less than that. but my car was still under warranty.

In general, i have a hard time trusting CSSC for new plans given they have made so many changes for AMG cars over the last year. just my .02

Its an 03 E55 AMG. With tax the plan was $6k. i find that to be pretty pricy... Seems like there pricing has really gone up.

I agree with the CSSC. Not only are they getting more pricey, changing just about everything that they cover/don't cover, but also because they are sending out cancellations left and right apparently.

My original factory MB warranty is up in March 2011 and I will be extending through MB only.

My SA said they have 1 yr/2yr/3yr plans all ranging in price from $2400-$4100.

To me, I'd MUCH rather go through the original manufacturer than ANY aftermarket company, especially since the car is still under the original factory warranty and they have all the records on file on what work has been done.

I'm hoping to get a 3 yr/75K MB ELW for hopefully than $4 grand. We'll see when the time comes (which is only a few months away).

I wish I would have had the opportunity to extend. I noticed the wagon would not go into full accelleration mode this morning on the freeway.
