DLR put 43.3 miles on the car!

OK, does this make sense to anyone -- I took the car in yesterday for alignment and TPMS light (again!!!), they replaced LR and all is good. However, one minor issue, they put 43.3 miles on the clock! Is it me, or is this a bunch of BS (my wife says I am an a$$ hole, she is right about erverything else, so maybe it is just me)? Now, they show miles in and miles out on the ticket and only show they put 16 miles on, put I had a feeling yesterday morn when I dropped it off and I reset the odo (of course, they could have fooled that, but they are lazy). Then, yesterday afternoon, the SA calls about 430 and says "...we would like to keep the car till morning because the TPMS light seems to be coming on again..." So, should I be pissed or not? Thanks in advance.

I'd go pick it up and bring it somewhere else....this is the biggest thing (besides 10% tax) I hated about TN...

of course they put 43 mile son your car, the service manager had a hot date he had to impress and those gold diggin ladies catch on to those dealer plates, so he took your car.

In all honesty it is a bunch of crap. They should have needed to put about 3 miles on it to check the allingment and resetting the TPMS takes about 200 feet of road. I would chew their butts

Why would they even need to put 16 miles on your car!! I would be pretty mad about the situation. In no way does a test drive after an alignment require 16 miles of driving, maybe 2 miles, if that!!

I'd have them knock 43 miles worth of gas off the bill. Or credit a oil change. I bet they didn't put any gas in it, did they?

I had some change stolen out of my ash tray and they gave me a free oil change, I didn't ask for it, I just wanted to point out there emplyoees are stealing from the customers.

Oh, you know, I forgot to say that the big RESERVE light was on when I got in the car in the service drive! I thought to myself, why the hell did they not put in $10.00 worth of gas (and charge me for $20). Then I got preoccupied with the freaking mileage issue. Well, thanksfor the comments. I am glad to know either: A. I am justified to be pissed or B. my wife is not the only one married to an a$$hole with a darn fast car ; - )

I would rip them a new one. 43 miles ???? That's a JOKE. Anytime I ever leave a car at the dealer, I make it very clear that the car is not to leave the property unless I am present. I'd make sure they hear about it and push for a free oil change or something like that. Oh yeah, and don't listen to your wife

43 miles? Someone went on a joyride... And i bet all of those were @ 20miles an hour with nearly no throttle...

I would be asking for an explanation... if their doing it to your car, they are doing to others... end the joyriding, show up looking for the owner.

The only reason I can think that you have to put 40 miles on a car is to set the emissions systems readiness codes

Damn joyriders. Yeah they had some fun with your ride, and you are to pitch a fit. It's principle of the matter, and most women do not understand that. No insult intended.

The installers that did my CLS clear bra did about 20 miles on my ride. I didn't raise much hell about it though, I had fixed a small issue with one of their PC's and he knocked $125.00 off the bill. I called it even.

Next time you bring it in put a Post-It note with the current mileage written on it and stick it on the gauge cluster. They'll think twice about joy-riding it

That's not good unless they told you they needed to drive it.

When I had my TPMS issue, the car needed to be driven a fair amount for diagnosis (more like 15 miles between 3 trips out) and the dealer had me drop by so I could drive it for them so there would be no question how the car was treated during those 15 miles.

Good luck and from experience, I can tell you that TPMS issues can be a PITA to even a good dealer.

They always do that. It's the techs and sometimes sa that take your car out for lunch or a drive. Next time complain to the manager.

When going to school I worked at a Honda dealer cleaning cars etc. We regularly would drive customer cars for lunch runs. No more than 10-15 kms tho. 43 miles is high.

Your SA should call you for approval if it leaves their property. Like that would ever happen...

Well, been there, done that. Years ago I dropped off my CLK 55 for warranty work performed on a leaking power steering hose. When I got the car back after a couple of days, they drove the car for more than a 100 miles, destroyed a front tire in the process (which they replaced) and the interior (oyster) had greasy hand prints all over. Naturally, the gas tank was empty as well. To say the least I was pretty pissed off, and went straight to the GM. For obvious reasons he protected his staff at first, but after I said I'm going to call MBZ, changed his tune accordingly. Long story short, I received a free detail, full tank of gas and a voucher towards accessories from the parts department.

Hey DSC,
It is our dealership right here in E TN! By the way, Dennis is detailing my car (finally) tomorrow and I can't wait to see his results. My arms can only do so much, can't wait to see how the orbital helps some of the fine scratches. Oh, and I am going to Bearden Benz next week, I have heard great things about him and he was the shop foreman and worked for MB Knox Motor Co. for 25 years. I will let you know what I find.

+1 on the lunch runs...

When I was a little kid, this was back in the 80's, I remember getting stuck watching my dad b!tch out the GM at the caddy dealer, because he had taken me out to lunch and while we were eating, 5 greasy service techs pulled up to eat at the same sandwich place...IN HIS CAR. This crap has been going on since the dawn of time.

I have even gotten my car back from my indy in jacksonville (and indys are supposed to be better) a few times with the gas light on when it was at a half or quarter of a tank when I dropped it off. I quit going to one guy, because I found a french fry stuck under the seat, and I don't ever eat in my cars. I found that really disrespectful.

I would say it's fine. Maybe they had to align it and test it 4 or 5 times. It's not easy to get it perfect the first time. I remember one car I had, I put about 100 miles on it in a day trying to get it aligned properly. Align test, align test etc...

It takes several miles for the TPMS to read the pressures on the display.

not 43 though...

Sometimes the TPMS sensor takes 10 to 15 miles to reset. That's the only explanation for putting 43 MILES on your car. Whenever I reset mine, it takes a couple of long trips to get the tire pressure to read correctly. I would ask the service manager why so many miles?!?!?!?!?!
