2009 E63 AMG
What cars would the E63 lose to from 60-155mph?

I have an annual cannonball run coming up that is about 200 miles long. A lot of cars show up for this thing. Will the E63 beat a C5 Corvette or C6 (not Z06 or ZR1)? Will it beat most mustangs, most Porsche's and BMW's? I would hate to not represent at this thing with the Merc lol. No exotics like Lambo or Ferrari will be there. At least I don't think so.

It depends on the mods done to the cars. But stock 996TT (X50 equipped), 997TT, BMW M6 and BMW M5 would probably be faster than a stock E63 from 60-155mph.

E55
Stock 996tt is like eating cake. I have evaporated about a half dozen of those. At 130mph I was an easy 2 car lengths ahead. Not sure about 155mph. Daaam that's "ludicrous speed"

Sounds about right. For poster above, X50 has 30hp and tq more and that makes a diff in a comparatively light car. M5 would light up the E63 in this scenario as it plays into the M's hands.

The E55/E63 would be quicker until 100. Past 100 the M cars move very fast...

Id rather win 0-100 than 100+ any day though.

Some of the mustangs are built. There is also a replica 427 cobra that will be there. I will post up the results how she fairs against everything. Last year my stock 05 C6 held up pretty well to most everything.

Keep in mind that you have an E55 which pulls harder at those speeds.

What is visual signs of a x50? My friends E63 moves pretty hard up top. I liked the shorter gearing too. I think M5 and E63 should be closer. Maybe we need to take this to Mexico for some test runs.

This is often exaggerated. Look at the official specs, weight difference is just 100lbs. The difference between individual engines would than offset this and plays a bigger part.

No visual signs, but later cars were badged Turbo S and came with the lighter PCCBs. Unlike the new 997s, the stick shift is much quicker/faster than the tip in the 996, but more reliant on driver skill.

To reaffirm once more, the E55 and E63 will beat the M5 from 0-100. From an 80mph roll or so the M5 will pull and pulls harder and harder as the speeds rise. This due to gearing an nature of the 8250rpm-capable V10.

As regards the two MBs, I think the E55 is a little quicker than the E63 from dig than the E63, but the E63 shades it from a roll, though the 7-speed is geared more for economy than performance.

+1

You won't be able to tell the difference between an X50 and non-X50, save the 2005 911 Turbo S which came standard with the X50 package.

The X50 package actually uses different turbos, the K24s as used on the GT2 and even the MB 600/65s. These turbos are much...much better than the stock 996 TT (I believe K16). This is especially beneficial at high speed...the K24 can run more boost (bigger turbos) but at the same boost level as the K16, it will produce much less heat. That is what makes it light years ahead of the standard 996TT and why most serious 911 Turbo performance junkies upgrade to the K24 for cars that came with the K16s. The next step is a hybrid K24...but that is a lesson for another day....

No the cars do not have to be stock but most are except for the Mustangs and Firebirds and stuff like that. They kind of need to be modded to hang in there anyways. It will be interesting to see what shows up this year. It's a great day and a lot of fun. I love these things!

Modded 436HP C6's are real sleepers. A friend did an exaust upgrade, air filter and reprogram and the car is pushing 490HP..all in a 3,100lb car.

Watch out

LQ, be careful of those SNEAKY B@stards in TT C6s. 60-155 is where mine sets your hair on fire. A Yugo can take me off the line though.
Have fun, play safe and represent the 63's. Let us know the outcome.

Regards,
George

Don't mean to threadjack.

I know exactly what you mean. This car will still hook and get off the line decently after a few tricks.
