I looked through your 500E gallery and love it. I almost bought a 500E back in the day but got the Ur S4 instead as it was about $30K cheaper and more track worthy (also did a Euro 3.8L E34 M5 a little later). For that time, the M5, S4, and 500E were in a league of their own. I never did get to own a 500E and have wanted one ever since. Out of those three icons, the 500E is the coolest machine some 17 years later!
Power- E55 hands down
Fun to Drive- Depends on the situation
Aftermarket Mods- Both require deep pockets
I guess it's really a toss up depending on what you are looking for.

Strange as it may sound, the 500E is still my favorite. As nice as the E55 is (exceptional car), the build quality pales in comparison. The MB cars produced before about 1994 are bullet proof. After 17 years, and 70K miles, there are no squeeks or rattles. The leather shows no signs of wear. The paint shines as if it were new. The quality Mercedes put into these cars is just not available today. I guess that's why they cost $82K in 1992. There are some nice examples out there today for great prices. One of my fellow 500Eboard forum members just picked up an original 9K mile example out of Florida.
