Successful Nitrous on a w211 e55?

Ok, so I've searched and scoured the board looking for who has done it right and who has done it wrong, attempted PMs and emails and had some great response from a few members (THANK YOU!) but noone who has first hand experience with the fuel system and other limiting factors while using a wet nitrous kit on an e55.

I have a wideband and a nitrous kit, and will probably start small for good measure, but would much rather save the engine than risk it if anyone has any experience or advice.

Thanks!

Car is an 05 e55

please get a fuel pressure gauge, this way you can make sure your not going too large of a shot where your losing fuel pressure.

My understanding is that it's a returnless fuel system where voltage to the pump is increased based on demand to maintain a fixed/static fuel pressure. The wide band o2 should pick up any lean condition, and I'll be running it on the fat side until it's sorted with fuel and nitrous pressure gauges installed.

Is there an easy way to trick these cars into pulling out timing?

i would recommend getting a progressive system, so you do not overwhelm the fuel system and lean the car out. progressive system will control nitrous "shot" - start low and gradually come up to the "full shot" of say a 100 or whatever nozzle you get.

The progressive systems work by opening and closing the solenoids rapidly...given mechanical nature, solenoids can and will stick open or hang closed, and I'd rather not leave that to chance...I'm not going to run dual 250hp shots or anything crazy like that (yet ), but would like to know what power levels the stock fuel system can support.

I guess I'll just have to do it the hard way

The guy to talk to is rflow306, I think thats his screen name lol. He hasnt been posting much for quite some time. I would get a tune to retard timing and run something like a 100 shot. The 55 motors respond really well to nitrous! Good luck, I plan on switching to a progressive controller and tuning for it soon.

I like this thread already. I would do a nitrous kit with a dedicated fuel system in place.

Thats a setup I used on the z06, had a great aluminum 1 gallon fuel cell that fit under the hood with its own pump, kept unleaded race gas in it at all times and never had any issues...

With the ice/water cell in the trunk, and now the bottle there really isn't much room for a separate fuel cell (even just 1 gallon) so I'd like to use the factory pump, perhaps with a boost-a-pump, if possible.

In my experience a 75-100 shot really doesn't use much fuel(relative to a 150+ shot) and should make quite a difference...

Back before hptuners, etc were available for ls1 cars we could use a diode/capacitor to trick the car into pulling out timing. I'm sure the e55 has a couple of sensors that tell the ecu to pull timing to prevent catastrophic failure...now to locate said sensors

Another member suggested having 2 separate ecus tuned, and I know there are people working on alternative solutions...I'm just impatient.

That is "The" setup to run IMO. I'm looking at a boost a pump on my buddys TT C6 Vette right now. Not a bad idea for what you are trying to do. But, I would make room for the you know what in the trunk.. Now the whole timing issue.. Maybe it has to do with the IAT temp sensor. Like if it passes a certain temp that it starts pulling timing. Maybe you can trick the sensor into thinking the IAT's are skyrocketing during a nitrous run. Don't forget the colder plugs too!

Already have a set of colder plugs and some 8.5mm wires...car has a solid non-nitrous bolt on setup (Headers, exhaust mods, pulley, tune, fresh plugs/wires, 160/180 thermostat, LET H/E and Johnson pump, etc..), just looking for that extra .2-.3 to get it there...

Also looking at a trunk mount ice/water box...but feel the nitrous will accomplish the same and then some.

Look up posts from a member named RFlow, he was one of our fastest members but he did his NOS the old fashioned way....button on and off. No mistakes, no WOT switch.

Yeah yeah I know...insane, but can learn a lot from his nozzles etc.

Fuel rail on our cars has a PERFECT little outlet that hooks right up to an AN hose and off you go. (meaning it's a start)

EVOSPORT has one of the most elaborate NOS systems I have ever seen on an SL55 but it a lot of cash.

This thing was wild. It did everything but check the Dow Jones and local weather to make sure everything was perfect or she would not fire.

I've tried to email, PM and even myspace *ugh* message to Rflow with no response...good to know someone was successful though.

Most fuel injected cars have some sort of schrader valve on them for diagnostic and troubleshooting. Not all of them are AN/ JIC, but good call regardless.

I don't mind using a momentary switch, just gotta make sure you let off between shifts

Thank you sir, I appreciate the heads up. I'll continue googling/searching then.

I'm contemplating removing my direct-port/progressive set up from my Celica to my E55, but just need to see some threads on installs/issues and things to generally be aware of. I'm not aiming for 'too much' though. Just 10hp per cylinder will be plenty for me.

Start off with a 50 wet shot and have it spray pre throttle body. You should see a 75rwhp gain with that small shot. I would talk to Bruce @ TTM Motorsports up in NY. He has done alot of them and knows EXACTLY how to setup it up right.

I have a nitrous system on my car but it is a ring on the front mount, and is used for cooling the HE.

Try reaching out to e55AMGRocket as he ran NOS on his last outing to the track

Its pretty much the same as any other car. I run a wet 40 shot to help with the cooling and it also gives you some extra power obviously. The fogger is in the Y-pipe facing the throttle body and i use a hand switch for spraying it just to be safe. I've only done 3 passes with it and have only sprayed in 2nd gear and 3rd gear so far. I should know a little more about it after this friday. I'm going to see how fast i can get it on the motor then try a few nitrous hits. On a side note i ran a 7.07 and a 6.93 60-130mph the other night spraying it but to be honest i was going down a pretty decent hill.

Also make sure you start off small and work your way up from there. These cars have VERY fragile pistons so keep that in mind.

URGGHHHHHH that's veryyyy off-putting!! I know a good amount about nitrous and installing/usage, but this is the sort of thing I crucially want to know. When you say fragile, do you mean in the sense that they're very sensitive to knock (presumably around the ring-lands?) or is it a temp/pressure thing?

I'd probably start 65/35 and then slowly lean out to a 55/45 ratio if possible...plug checking being my means of genuinely understanding what's going on in there.

Detonation is what seems to break the ring lands but detonation is a spike in pressure( think of a jack hammer hitting the piston when that happens). I hope your not saying a .065 nitrous jet and a .035 fuel jet. That would be around a 200 shot and on these you would be closer to a 250 shot. I run a .026 N2O and .013 fuel right now and I'm actually going down to a 24/12 after getting some cooling problems figured out.
