I sure hope Benz isn't backing out of the horsepower wars quite yet, because the next-gen M3 and M5 are going to be absolute screamers with a little help from a chip. M Group CEO Ludwig Willisch has confirmed that these steps are a "must". I agree Ludwig!!

Great link!

Article mentions V6, not I6, for the M3. Regardless, those will be absolute monsters once tuned/modded/transformed by ACS, Dinan, et al.

In all likelihood it will be an I6. I can't rule a V out because it will be more compact and therefore easier to fit snugly against the firewall, but BMW is FAMOUS for their I-6's.

Personally, I'll be sad to see the S85 engine go. It's truly a work of art and one of the smoothest and most responsive engines ever made. This is the pinnacle of BMW engineering, the future generation seems to be borrowing AMG's hammer.

I'm always happy to see more choices out there... I love F/I engine given available torque on the tap at low RPM.... so I'm not a fan of current M's engine... but if I could get something more extreme than the ole' W210 E55 engine's characteristics, I wouldn't mind N/A.

Can't wait to see the TT suite of M's.... and TT suite of AMG's

If the 335 was any indication, oil will boil out of these TT engines

That's why... don't buy 1st gen. Not only this... but remember the i-drive issue, SMG, etc. etc. etc. just like any other car... 1st gen = lots of bugs.

But I think this oil boiling thing on N54 engine has been resolved... well at least it hasn't happened (yet knock on woods) on my '08 wagon (2nd gen that uses N54 engine). We'll see...

Formula Mazda, Beast Junior...400HP 135i
I can attest to the new TT BMW motors being the cats meow.

I just picked up a new toy to play with...a 135i 6 speed (loaded) and it has no turbo lag and torque from 1500RPM to redline. I believe it is 300/300 now and I have 400HP/430lb Ft of torque on the way from Dinan and expect it to challenge most things on the road as it only ways 3,400lbs. The brakes are massive 6 piston setups on the front with rotors that fill the 18" wheels so it stops as good as it moves out. Furthermore, it is 100% loaded and the interior quality and trim level is equal to the E55 in a car that was only $44K.

If this is the new face of BMW, I'm there for a TT M3 or TT M5 as power levels should easily be 500-650HP with a mild tone and bolt ons.

Great buy.
I might be getting 135i after my Audi A3 lease ends

It seems like a downgrade to me unless M3 has a twin-turbo V8 and M5 has a twin-turbo V10. Audi's new RS6 already has a twin-turbo V10 with 580hp stock, that's what I would buy if I were looking for a sedan.

I shall put an order in for the m3 as soon as the 2nd year of the tt generation comes out. Friend has a 335i and w/minor $ mods that thing is DAMNED impressive.

You will not regret the 135i. It is the best BMW platform that I have driven in a long time and I am convinced that if I "went off" on it that I could make it run a ring around the new M3 as it is far more agile. Sadly as it is an around town car, I will never find out as I can't justify more than the power mods and some interior/exterior cosmetic mods.

Someone call CH because I smell a troll...................oops, never mind.

Is it possible to return to a 3,000lbs M3? I would give up the extra engine displacement in exchange for a light and nimble M car. I still think that the E36 M3 was one of the best all-around sports cars ever made.

The e36 M3 w/a proper aftermarket suspension was a go cart. I loved it and will definitely buy another.

I think the next m5 is getting the new v8tt thats going in the x5m 555hp or something like that. Its def a v8 tho.

if the m3 gets a tt inline 6 it will be a modders dream,it will be the new supra of modern cars.

people are trapping 120+ with basic bolts ons on 335s now, imagine a bigger M power inline 6
